Neeta Kulkarni & Associates, Interior Designers

This interior designer and contractor from Nigdi Pradhikaran Pune is absolutely unprofessional, unethical and unreliable. The other 28 high ratings secured are either manipulated or from those who may have given her just design contracts and were satisfied with whatever they got. I had my daughter and son-in-law give her a turnkey contract for their apartment and we had one of the most frustrating and stressful experiences of our lives.

The architect delegated design work to very junior or inexperienced girls and did not check what they were delivering. Similarly, she delegated most of the work to a carpenter associate of her and never verified what he was creating. He, in turn, delegated work(again without checking back) to one of his men who was assisted by ever changing very young and inexperienced carpenters and he too did not check what they were delivering.

She disowned responsibility for her own proposals and always tried to pass the buck for anything gone wrong back to the client, us. Similarly, her carpenter associate disowned responsibility for mistakes which were galore.

There was no "project management" from her as such and dates given to us had no meaning. The work stretched on and on by months. She would disappear for days together, for personal as well as professional(other assignments) reasons without any intimation to her clients and keep her phone switched off. During such periods of darkness, her juniors in office(very very junior), if at all available, would also not throw any light on her whereabouts or when she would be available.

The final straw came and we were constrained to terminate our relationship with us, with about 96% of the agreed total project price paid and 10% of the work remaining, when we had evidence of very high level of dishonesty. She had told her that what she would be charging us will be cost plus about 8% towards her own effort. We discovered her when she charged us Rs.9, 000 for a cloth drying system and had her carpenter hand in the balcony(without reference to us, despite our having told her many-many times that we first wanted to be shown what would be installed) a contraption costing just about Rs.800. We later had the most reputed branded system put up for Rs.3700 on our own.

To make the house livable, we had to get items got made by her repaired or corrected by her agencies at significant cost to us. For example, the kitchen trolleys would not stay put in their rails and furniture polishing was of disgusting quality and appearance. We do not know what is the quality of materials used and how long it will last or to what extent we have been overcharged. Unfortunately, we did not have the time to engage multiple contractors and get work done through them under our supervision and therefore gave her the total contractor, on reference and trust. We rue our decision.
