A fleeting moment and a fragrance

’’Coffee should be black as Hell, strong as death, and sweet as love.’’

  • Turkish Proverb

Coffee and my day….

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best time to have Nescafe is at 8 AM in the morning – when I park the car next to the institute cafe, order my cuppa and sit there, alone in the morning sunlight with the greenery around me, think about the day in front of me. I listen to the sounds of silence and the birds chirping around me. The best way to start a productive, grueling, interesting day.

Or is it at 11 AM ? That’s when me and my colleagues tumble out of the department, walk to the cafe (again !). Lots of laughter, jibes, jokes and fun. Excitement in the air and raw energy pulses through along with rich, dark coffee. Plans are made and strategies chalked out.

Then how about 3 PM ? Hot, sleepy afternoons. Drowsily walking upto the cafe (again !), falling on the counter and mumbling ‘Coffee’. Conversational skills are minimal and energy levels dip low. Somehow, the hot, summer sun and a hot cup of coffee just does the trick. I feel that I can survive some more hours. After a coffee shot, I walk back to my work.

And finally the best time of the day – evenings. The mood is peaceful as we walk to the Nescafe with relaxed steps. It’s the best time to meet up with friends who are either just hanging about or going to the gym or the swimming pool. As the smell of coffee pervades the cool, evening air, it’s a wonderful way to end a glorious day.

However much I try, I cannot imagine my day without Nescafe. It keeps me alive, happy, contented, ready to take on the world and cheerful.

The best way to make coffee at home is to whisk coffee powder, milk powder and sugar for about 10 minutes till it’s rich, viscous and creamy and then add hot water. It’s absolutely senseless to have weak, diluted coffee – since it tastes terrible.

Memories….

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best conversations take place while one is whisking coffee – the expectation of warm, delicious cuppa is high, the wonderful aroma of coffee is in the air and the mood is upbeat. That’s the time to talk about future plans, disappointments, hopes and dreams. That’s also the best time for confessions, guilt trips and forgiveness.

I have so many memories of my mother whisking coffee, with me standing next to her and telling something which I never could find courage to in other times that coffee has become associated with mother-daughter bonding in my mind.

I do feel that no home is complete without the aroma of Nescafe in the air. Somehow it is so comforting and feels like home – an oasis in a threatening, confusing world.

Did you Know...

...that if you yell for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you’ll produce enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. Not that I have ever tried. I can’t yell to save my life. My voice just does not cooperate with me.

Yet, that shows how potent is coffee and how useless is yelling !
