Tulips, windmills and clogs (wooden shoes) have made Holland world famous. The Netherlands is a country partly reclaimed from the waters of the North Sea, and around half of it lies at or below sea level. Land reclamation has been the dominant motif of its history, the result a country of resonant and unique images – flat, fertile landscapes punctured by windmills and church spires.
The canals of Amsterdam, the royal palaces in The Hague, the elegance of Maastricht, the biggest harbour of the world in Rotterdam, the centre of Holland in Utrecht, and the cheese market in Alkamaar.
Visitors to Holland normally come to Amsterdam, stay a few days and think they have visited the country. But believe me there is more beauty and history in other cities and towns which they missed
The Hague, the city where I live, is a great place; with its many swinging and cultural events .It is a pleasure to visit The Hague any time of the year. And there is the coast, of course! So close to town, the wide beaches and the vast North Sea to sunbathe or take an invigorating walk. In short, in The Hague you can enjoy yourself in many different ways.
The Hague, offers a wide range of things to do for the whole family. One of the most popular is a visit to Madurodam where you can see Holland in miniature, Magic Ice Madurodam. A team of eighteen Chinese artists have captured the magic of China in some 30 characteristic sculptures. The sculptures are made from gigantic blocks of ice. The exposition is staged in a 1000-square-meter-large, covered hall. The temperature is kept at a permanent -5 to -10 degrees
Since International Court of Justice is based here, The Hague is rightly called the legal capital of the world
The Hague boasts the most famous night in the whole of Holland: the eve of Queen Beatrix birthday. The whole of downtown The Hague becomes one big, swinging
Musical talent and a festive fair around the Hofvijver pond! This night is called KoninginneNach . In addition to this night of all nights, The Hague has a varied nightlife, which changes continuously, following the latest trends. As a result, you may find that a favourite pub or restaurant has suddenly closed down, while new bars, cafés, and discos are opening up all the time. Not far away there is Holland Casino, where one can enjoy an excellent night out, with relishing Dutch food, playing black jack or just on the slot machines.
There is a typical Indian/Surnami shopping street in the City Centre where one can but Saris, incense, Indian music tapes or even Indian video films. In fact walking through that shopping mall you can hear bhojpuri and Hindi dialects and feel that you are in Suriname.
A great place and I love it.
