I have watched this movie umpteen number of times and somehow I never get tired of rajini in this movie.Watching this movie, I feel that by rajini’s decision to switch over as a hero, tamil film world has lost an excellent villain. Rajini can look evil without any loud mouthed dialogues as was evident in movies like moondru mudichu, netrikann and more recently in chandramukhi ( as vettaiyan raja).
Well the story goes like this.....Chakravarthy is a self made crorepathi in coimbatore. His family consists of wife Meenakshi(Lakshmi), son Santhosh( Rajini) and daughter sangeetha(Vijaya shanthi). Chakravarthy is devoted to his family but he has a weakness for women. He is highly promiscuous which his children are unaware.But when his son comes to know of this trait, he takes it upon himself to correct his father. So Chakravarthy escapes to hongkong where he meets radha (saritha) , his employee whom he had sent to hongkong for training. He takes advantage and rapes. Coming back, he is infuriated by the changes done by ’’General Manager’’ only to find that radha is the GM. Worse, she is also his daughter-in-law. Santhosh and Radha together push him to the edge. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Although its a kind of cliche’d story, the strength like in the acting of rajinikanth. He has differentiated between the arrogant, promiscuous short tempered father and obedient, patient and virtuous son. I simply lived chakravarthy, Rajini was first class. My personal favourites are the initial scenes showing the difference between the father and the son, the scene where he talks to radha after molesting her with radha repeating the same thing to him later, the scene where he talks to sarath babu requesting him not to marry his daughter.
Music is by Ilayaraaja. BGM’s are good.Special mention to the BGM where chakravarthy confronts radha.Songs are also good. I liked Maapillaikku maaman manasu and theeradha vilaiyattu pillai.
Dialogues are by Visu. Excellent dialogues.
