I was hesitant at first when I saw Never been Kissed was on one of the cable channels. I felt it was going to be on eof those high school movies made for teens. The only reason I did decide to watch it because Drew Barrymore stars in it.
Ever since I first watched it, it has become one of my favorite movies. I try to catch it each time it airs, and each time I do watch it, I enjoy it more & more.
Drew Barrymore plays Josie Gellar, a 25 year old editor for a newspaper. She gets her first break in reporting for the newspaper, but she has to go undercover to the local high school and find her story. She gets hooked up with a hidden camera and a microphone, which allows her co-workers to watch every move that she makes.
She has to try and fit in with the in crowd at the high school, but instead becomes a hit with the geeks. Josie was a geek in high school herself, and throughout the movie, you see flashbacks of some of her most embarrassing moments as a high school teen. With the help of her brother, Rob, (David Arquette) she finally gets in with the popular crowd.
To make a long story short, she is attracted to her English teacher, who you could sense is attracted to her, and he knows it is morally wrong to be attracted to a student. Her boss wants that to be her story, Teacher hits on Student.
While being undercover, she lives out her fantasies that she never got to do when she was a real student. She then discovers being popular and with the in crowd isnt all that it is cut up to be.
When her story is blown, the teacher is pretty upset at her and refuses to talk to her. She then gets her story, which turns out to be a pretty big break for her. What was her story? Well that you would have to find out for yourself, since I do not want to ruin the movie for you.
This was a great movie, and I love the flashbacks that they do in this movie. With each flashback, they feature music, hair styles and clothes, and that just brings me right back to when I was in high school. The movie was pretty accurate with the timing sequence.
I would highly recommend this movie as a movie to watch with friends, when you all are just bumming around, and want something fun to watch.
