This has got to be one of the best films to be released in the past few recent years. Personally I am not a big film watcher – but my wee sister begged me to watch this film with her – and believe you me I have no regrets in doing so.
The film is all about Josie Geller (played by the wonderful Drew Barrymore), a 25 year old reporter with the Chicago Sun Times newspaper. Josie is at the stage now in her career that she wants to make in big in the world of journalism. So her editor sends her on her first undercover assignment – which is to return to high school and try to find a story – her editor suspects that a lot of possible headline news stories could be found in a High School.
So Josie returns to High school, as a 17 year old again, wearing a hidden camera, (not an easy task to do), but as she does so all the memories of her own days at High school come flooding back – and they are far from pleasant. Josie had been the geek in her year at High school, and had been tortured all the time she was at High school. She had an awful experience on the night of her High school Prom – when her date made a complete fool out of her, by arriving at her house in a limo, hurling eggs at Josie and then driving on, leaving her standing there like a complete loser.
With the aid of her hidden camera, her work mates back in the newspaper office track Josie’s entire day – they are completely glued to the television screen in the office watching her every move.
Although Josie tries hard this time at high school to fit in and not be the geek – things don’t go as planned. Josie is still quite geekish in the way she dresses and behaves.
The day is saved by her brother Rob, (you won’t believe this is David Arquette), who returns also to High school to try and make his big break as a baseball player – despite the fact he his 23 years old. Rob is the cool dude type of guy that everyone loves, and girls just follow him around like wee puppy dogs. Rob sees that Josie is in trouble, so with the help of his active mind he tells a few tall stories – which soon result in a complete turn around for Josie.
Josie shakes off the geek style imagine, and becomes one of the most popular girls in school. She even ends up being given the title of Prom Queen – something All-American girl’s dream off. And she falls in love with one of her teachers – and in the end they do make it (typical romantic tale)
Alright it is ANOTHER Typical romance stories and YES its like so many before it – but this film is very modern and interesting. It is in my opinion one heck of good Romantic Comedy – which I will certainly be watching again. YEAH the basic story line is like that of 100 films before it – but its well written and very amusing. This is one film I think would be best for a chicks night in, I guarantee some one will cry during the film.
