We claim to be the capital of India along with being a metro city.*
Something about this review -** Here, in this review, I’m not going to sing a song that Delhi is the best city or it’s the heart of India ! I’m neither going to list down the 5 star hotels or tourist attraction you can’t resist
visiting. Rather in this review I intend to go brutally honest about this city.
I’ll throw light on of the insights which a true Delhitian faces or feels about
Delhi. In fact I’ll suggest you to read it
with a free mind or else you’ll end up hating or loving this city !
1.We, the Educated People– (our education system)
We’ve over 1500 schools which may be at every corner
of the city and may be recognized or unrecognized. To help the students pass
their school/ college exams, I bet the number of coaching centers exceeds the
number of “Pan Vala” in the city. All the trees are tied with their silly ads
assuring the poor parents that their child will not only pass, but will get
over 90%. We’ve number one university of Asia in Delhi – DELHI
UNIVERSITY. DU has round about 62-65 colleges, where neither the professors are willing to
teach nor the student are willing to study. We’ve the hub for commerce
education. For example Laxmi nagar supplies CA’s, CS’s etc to the whole county.
They themselves might not be CAs , but will guarantee to make you one. Now how
can I resist telling about the cream part ! every locality has a coaching center
where you can get a post graduation degree even if you did not pass your 6th
class exam – All this at a very
reasonable price, and what’s more ? you get additional discounts if you get them
2-3 more of such students.*
- Beggary, Slums, Maids and their Adams*
In beggary we’re growing our scope everyday. You name
a place, and they’ll after you. Red lights, near temples, restaurants, bus
stations, railway stations, public convince(loo) and where not. I remember once
I was joyfully licking my Mc Donald’s Soft cone, while waiting for a friend outside.
A strange looking girl of about 10 years came near me, asking me to give a note
of Rs.10. Being a wise girl ;-) , I ignored her completely and carried on with
my work. To my surprise she snatched my soft cone leaving me a state of compete
shock ! in Delhi the industry of beggary is ever mounting. Mind it, they aren’t
all that poor or naïve as they appear. In slums, we can’t compete with
Asia’s number one slum i.e. in Mumbai, but ya we aren’t any less. These days
metro is running in all veins of Delhi, and so is the scope of slums. **Maids-
Delhi **maids have real attitude problem, they’re the picture of true
Modern Indian woman coming from all the states. I can cite my maid’s example, sometimes
I seriously doubt that she is richer
than her employers. She’s recently bought a house of her own of Rs. 7lahks and
still owns some 3lakhs as cash and lots of gold. She’s a member of 3 kitties in
which she can raise huge amount of cash. How independent ! she’ll take 4-7
leaves in a month without giving us an intimation of her resting time. ….**And
their Adams**- here adams symbolizes drivers, watchman and rest alike. They
appear to be really poor and honest. Obviously (appearing) very loyal to their
employers. You give them an old shirt, they’ll smile in front of you but make
faces at your back and might even throw the same shirt in the nearest dustbin.
*3. Something gold ! oops ! I mean old
*Here old and gold symbolizes some old and very badly
constructed places. These oldies include
Connaught place (better known as cp where people cant be caught if lost !) , Chandni chock, ( it isn’t Chandni Chock of
k3G of karan johar). Chandni chock is indeed a place famous for bride and groom
dresses , food and lastly for being exceptionally dirty place. I happen to
visit Chandni chock on a rainy day, after that I couldn’t dare ! old also
includes a number of forts and historical monuments which are cleaned only on
national days like 26th jan and 15th aug. story of
unlimited temples , mosque and gurdwara is quite known.
4. “Newer” Delhi
Newer Delhi includes culture/places which have been newly adapted/
established. Malls – we’ve in total 65 malls in Delhi and NCR. But I’ve
personally visited hardly 20 of them. Age old cinema halls like Priya, regal,
liberty are out, new PVRs, Waves etc have taken the responsibility of
entertaining Delhi. Delhi Metro – this is one, against which I hold no
grievances and in fact I truly respect. We’ve Delhi Metro to boost about which
is not only very modern and speedy but it’s also very classy helping us control
our ever mounting traffic. Nehru place, Lajpat Rai market and Gaffar market
offers you a market for computer accessories and other electronics at an
unbelievable price. Where else can you find 2gb ipod of just Rs.750? Newer
Delhi also include Chains like Mc Donald’s, Big Bazar, Vishal, Subhiksha stores
and Reliance Refresh.
5. Age old shoppers
Delhitians are famous buying anything and everything. We
gen-x people don’t hesitate buying caps of 1800 from malls which otherwise
would cost 70-100 ! we shop from malls, markets and local markets we’ve huge
markets like lajpat nagar, sarojni nagar, laxmi nagar, Delhi haat etc… we also
have a range of local market (e.g. Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesday market) I know I
may be sounding quite funny but we’ve all this. We’ve huge industries of shops
that survive on streets. Yes, you got me right I’m talking about street venders
etc . they can make you anything that’s highly useless with their very high influencing power. Venders
at red fort, Chandni chock, Palika Bazar will acknowledge foreigners more than
Indian, obviously charging them the double amount for their extra-sweet
service.
*6. We, the Travelers (our transport system )
*We travel by private conveyance, public conveyance (buses
and autos) and the latest Delhi Metro. Private conveyance is quite private but
it has given Delhi it’s unlimited traffic. Public conveyance can give you life
long experience. DTC and private blue line buses which are always over- crowded.
They stop at each and every stop making your journey unbearably long and
trying. Auto vala’s are in their own world and may charge you Rs.70-100 for a
distance of 6km. Delhi Metro I’ve already talked
*7. Our Nature
Lastly I want you to know how the Delhitians are. We’re **friendly.
Yes ! extra friendly ! we become friends with teachers, professors and
principal sir/ madam, We do so , to do away with our short of attendance or
getting our marks increased in exams. One of my friend is dating with his
economics teacher, she even gave him a branded shirt of Rs. 2100. That’s quite
cool ! We become friend with superiors or bosses for unlimited reasons. We even
don’t mind becoming friends with an old neighbor (whose daughter/son is hot).
Through this review, do I intend to criticize my city
??????????? NO way ! I wanted the world
to know how we mange to survive even in all this, when weather gets crazy in
summers and winters and we’ve no water and electricity . what’s more ? Our neighboring
states refuse to give us water. We’re naive, intelligent , kind hearted people.
Delhi never sleeps and works all the year round.<
