Atlantic City, NJ is one of my favorite getaways, the popular gambling hotspot is about 6 hours south of me and I usually get down there once a year. Ive stayed at several of the casinos on the boardwalk, the most recent one being Resorts which is near one of the ends of the boardwalk and is connected to the Taj Mahal casino.
I enjoyed my stay at Resorts, the staff was helpful and courteous and our room was wonderful. We were on the 14th floor and had a great view of the boardwalk, beach and the ocean. It was breathtaking first thing in the morning when the sun was coming up and the water was glistening. The room itself was very nice, it was your standard type hotel room with 2 double beds, a dresser, and a table with 2 chairs. The bathroom was huge with a comfortable tub and plenty of counterspace.
There are many things to do in Atlantic City, besides gambling. We started our day off with a walk on the boardwalk, as we left Resorts we looked to our left to see the Taj Mahal and Showboat There is an amusement park on a dock across from the Taj Mahal We didnt go there, but it looked like it would be alot of fun. There is also a Hard Rock Cafe in that area. We headed right, toward the center of the boardwalk, passing The Claridge which is the oldest hotel/casino on the boardwalk, We passed several restaurants and gift shops on the boardwalk, filled with the usual souvineers of coffee cups, Tshirts and postcards. The smell of ocean mixed with the smell of foods from the restaurants is just wonderful. As you walk by the casinos you can hear the jingling of coins and the excitement in the air as people win money.
There is also a mall on the boardwalk, located almost across from the Trump Plaza The Atlantic City mall is a old cruise ship that I believe got stuck ashore years before and was made into a mall, it is a 3 level mall with several unique shops that you wont find anywhere else. I enjoy going to this mall because of the different shops. There is also an arcade at the end of the first level, and a food court at the end of the second level. There is an observation deck outside of the food court that offers great views of the city. The third floor of the mall is 4 restaurants (4 as of early 2000)
The food in Atlantic City is great as well. All of the casinos offer buffets for reasonable costs, as well as having several restaurants or coffee shops inside. There is also plenty to eat on the boardwalk.
Id recommend Atlantic City for a weekend getaway. Its a great town with plenty to offer!
