A 'New' Benchmark for sleaze

When we saw Vijay’s supposed ’panting’ being mistaken for him having sex with Mumtaz in ’Kushi’, we must have known that a movie like ’New’ was going to be made sometime or the other.

I am not saying that ’New’ is the worst movie or that it is worse than the worst movie. I can safely say that this movie cannot be mentioned in the same sentence with ’worst’, let alone mentioning that it is an adapted version of the Tom Hanks starrer ’Big’.

When you don’t find a shred of logic from the first scene to the last, it makes you wonder if it was intentional on the part of S.J. Suryah to offend the audience. The movie reminded me of Parthiban’s Ulle Veliye, another lame excuse of a movie whose only objective was to flood the theatre with sleaze.

I wondered if the movie was made to be satirical, what with the use of several cliches like ’love at first sight’, and ’Adikkra Kai thaan anaikkum’ (the hand that hits is also the one that embraces’) to name just two. I dismissed the idea as soon as the sleazefest started.

Just about every character in this movie is unbelievable, irrational and has been badly acted out, irrespective of the actor/actress being talented or not. Nasser is easily the most wasted actor in this enterprise, while Kiran is the most hateable. Her character is that of a married brahmin woman (maami) from Kumbakonam. She looks, walks and talks like a prostitute from Sonagachi. The worst part of the Kiran episode in the movie is that it serves as a lesson in Jealousy (Whaaaaaat!!).

I plead with you to not see this movie. Inspite of the fact that it has good songs that are indeed well shot, it is not worth it. Wait and see the songs on Sun TV.
