Kabir Khan really wants to makemodern movies. He likes to make contemporary and fast paced movies. Kabul, sinceit was his first movie, I guess he had to add humor and songs into it, but thistime he has managed to make his movie a lot grimmer and more taught.
Yes, compared to Hindi “Bollywood”movies, where he has to be bracketed in(though New York – as the name suggests– is totally based in that American city & Kabul was in Afghanistan!) his movies are definitely moremodern.
But if you compare them with the Hollywoodstuff that one gets to watch in multiplexes and on the TV regularly(like theBourn series, or the Die Hard series, or the Ocean series) – his movies seemvery inadequate. The direction looks unsure, the plot childish, the editingvery loose, the acting amateurish and the background music totally atrocious.
Yet, the movie – because the themesare modern & contemporary – is engaging. And my 17 year old son loved it. Hethought it was a very good film.
That is all that matters I guess.If you can appeal to the teen crowd, you have a winner. And I am sure Kabirwill grow better with each subsequent movie.
And I really hope he learns to putthe right background score!
