So, welcome to the Jawaani Deewani city of our country was the first remark made by my cousin sister on my arrival to the city.
Newcastle(ncl) upon Tyne in the northern part of England is a class in itself. I went there to meet my Uncle and his family who have loved and lived in the city for the last 40 years. It is abt 4.5 hour raod travel from London with some really very spectacular scenery with some popular towns on the way like Bradford on Avon( Shakespear), Nottingam( Robin Hood)etc. Actually, at many instances I really wanted to go out of the car and touch the green grass, chapels, cows, mountains, rivers which made the environment like a Yash Chopra movie. Since I went in December, the weather was a bit foggy, but in summers it really is great, but I still prefer the unpopular winter life in UK coz I think it is the real charm of going there.
Well, my cousins told me that ncl is really the YOUNG BRITAIN. There is a Bigg market where there are a lot of pubs, restaurants and night clubs ( Over 18), but I couldnt go into one coz I was 17 then. But now as I am 18, I really hope to go there again.oohh!!!
But I was amazed at the way the youth enjoyed there in ncl. Believe me, at 6 pm temp. -5 to 5 degrees and u see everyone flooded into the city with the women wearing next to nothing and the lads in smart jeans and T shirts, as though they are on the Chowpatti in amchi Mumbai!!
On the whole ncl is a blend of everything. It has that old british charm of a village, on the one hand and the cosmopoliton look like London on the other.During the day, one can see the various monuments But I liked the beach the most. Water was soo cold that even standing on the nearby sand was nothing less than who dares wins!! There are a lot of restaurants, pubs, casinos, amusement areas around the beach which make it even more attractive. But do not buy souvenirs from the beach as they r really expensive. But definitely try out some hot fish n chips there coz u see most people on the beach enjoying these in the cold environment. For veggies, I suggest roast potatoes.
Well, if u want to shop, I advice u to go to the Quayside where a lot of variety is present. Personally, I feel ncl is much cheaper than London as u can find really good bargains if u search a bit for sales and discounts. The accent of people here is different from london english but it is not much of a problem.Travel in ncl is not very expensive, so I think u should buy a complete day pass for tube as it takes u all through the city very conveniently. I always tarvelled by car with my relatives but my cousins were my agony aunts.
In a crux and a bookish langauge, I can really tell u that fashion, cultures, bars, cafes and even the most popular Indian Curry Restaurants are a part of this Jawani Deewani city and with a little planning u dont have to spend a fortune to experience it.
A person on a visit to UK can definitely make atleast a 2 day trip to this city to enjoy the wonderful city.
I hope my second review on MS gives u a little idea about the city of the North- Newcastle upon Tyne. I would be thankful if u rate the review.
