Nicolas Cage was born on the 7th of January 1964. Nicolas Cage is single, although he has had failed marriages in the past, most notably his marriage with Marie Presley, daughter of The King himself, Elvis Presley. Nicolas Cage is now married to a much younger woman, I think she is in her early twenties.
Nicolas Cage is now an “A” class star in Hollywood. Nicolas Cage cannot walk anywhere without being recognised, such is his status amongst the public. Cage, from Long Beach in California has a very heavy accent, and you can tell straight away that he is from out West.
Nicolas Cage has an Oscar to his name. He won it for his role as Ben Sanderson in Leaving Las Vegas back in 1995. I haven’t watched this film, it is not my type, but it is supposed to be very good.
Until about 1998 Cage was known as an Action Hero. But now we can safely say that he is a multi-dimensional actor. He has played all sorts of roles and played them very well.
Cage has a whole array of films to his name, I won’t write them all, there are about 50 and anyways you can just read them from imdb.com. However I will give some analysis of some his better or more famous roles.
I think Nicolas Cage’s best performance came in the film Matchstick Men 2003. In this film he played the part of Roy Waller, a con-artist who is conned himself in an outrageous way. He plays the part of a man who wants everything to be clean to the extent of being spotless. Roy is allergic to the outdoors and has a lot of so called “Ticks”. He plays the roles perfectly. It is impossible to fault him for his role in this film. I recommend this film to everyone, it is real fun.
After his great performance in Leaving Las Vegas he made a string of action films.
The first of these was the high adrenaline crowd pleasing “The Rock”. Cage played Stanley Goodspeed who is a chemical weapons expert. Somehow or another he ends up on a mission to save the city of San Francisco. He plays this role very well, again you will have to watch the film to understand. The Rock was a huge hit all over the world. It remains as one of the great action films of the 90s. Cage played alongside Sean Connery in this film, they gelled very well together. This film was also the start of a very close bond between Cage and film producer Jerry Buckenheimer. His role in this film earned him a healthy $4, 000, 000.
Cage and Buckenheimer paired up again alongside several other big names to produce a high octane action thriller “Con Air” 1997. Con Air is a real roller coaster ride, Cage didn’t have to do much in this film, so I cannot say that this was one of his greater performances. In fact a couple of the other cast members outshone him. John Malkavich and John Cusack were stunning in this film. Cage still did his part, he put on a strange accent during the course of this film, and it added even more flavour to this huge Blockbusting action thriller.
Cage soon followed this action film with yet another action film. “Face Off” 1997 was yet another non-stop rollercoaster ride of a film. Cage teamed up with John Woo and John Travolta to produce one of the greatest films of out time. Cage and Travolta both played villain and hero throughout the course of the film, if you watch it you will understand. Cage was simply breathtaking in this film. He was Mr Cool all the way through, he was oozing with confidence. Cage earned $6, 000, 000 for his role in this film, he deserved every penny.
Cage was now earning a reputation close to that of Arnie. Unlike Arnie, he knows when to stop. Cage now decided that a change was needed, maybe he got bored or maybe he wanted to prove to us that he can act all sorts of roles. He picked a romantic film and decided that it was time for him to become one for the girls now as well as the guys. “City of Angels” 1998 was a reasonable success in the states and across the Atlantic also. But Cage failed to continue the huge success he had prior to this film.
Cage carried on making all sorts of films. He made a wartime film under John Woo, “Windtalkers” for this film Cage earned a whopping $20, 000, 000. It isn’t the best wartime film, it isn’t too bad either. He made several other hit films including “Snake Eyes” 1998, “8mm” 1998, “Gone in 60 seconds” 2000, “Adaptation” 2002, “Matchstick Men” 2003 and most recently the family film “National Treasure” 2004.
Cage is now earning huge amounts for all the roles that he plays, he has climbed his way to the top slowly and steadily.
Cage is an under-rated actor, I would say that out of the any actors of out generation Cage is definitely amongst the top 3. The other two being Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.
The much anticipated film “Weather Man” 2005 is due very soon, Cage is also working on a huge budget film named “Lord of War”. So thankfully we haven’t seen the last of Cage.
Cage is now ageing, obviously 41 is not old by any stretch of the imagination, but in Action hero terms he is on his way out.
I hope that my favourite actor continues to make films for several more years, he is a great actor and amongst the best out there today.
