Movies which can entertain people to the fullest are quite few these days. With
more hollywood films being based on serious concepts, a nice comedy hasnt come
for quite a while. Finally, One has arrived!
Night At The Museum directed by Shawn Levy is a hilarious and a complete
entertainer to chill out this summer. A perfect comedy/fantasy film with
everything in the right proportion.
The Story.
The story revolves around Larry Daley(Ben Stiller), a man who has been divorced
and has a 10 yr old son. His son lives with the mother as Larry doesnt have a
stable job. Larry on his search for a job, is given an offer at the Museum Of
Natural History. Though the job is a little under-priveleged one like that of a
night guard, Larry decides to take it. The previous night guards at the museum do
not instruct Larry about its secrets.
Larry, on his first night as a night guard discovers that everything in the
Museum comes to life at night. He is assisted by Americas 26th president Teddy
Roosvelt(Robin Williams) who also reveals the secret as to why the artefacts in
the museum come alive. It is due to the Tablet of Akhmenrah, the egyptian
pharoah. Larry faces a lot of problems in doing his job, especially due to
torture given by a Capuchian Monkey, named Dexter and Jedaine Dyer(Owen Wilson).
However, the ending is pretty normal and stereo-type . The old night guards of
the museum try to steal the ornaments(including the Tablet of Akhmenrah). Larry
releases King Akhmenrah from his coffin and both of them decide to settle things
right. Along with the help of Attila The Hun, Dyer, Octavius and Sakagawea, they
retrieve the ornaments and arrest the night guards.
The use of history has been safe. The crew of the film have used prominent names
of the past in the film. Certain errors notable were that the Capuchian Monkey,
which is South American Native is on display in the Hall of African animals!
The background scores are great and give the effect of a top-class film. The sets
are superior in quality, which makes one wonder if it was a real museum itself!
Night At The Museum is worth a watch. Probably the next best fantasy film after
Jumanji!
