Here is a true story about the popcorn promises made by IT training institutes.

This story is about NIIT and me and many other students who fell for the promises made by NIIT. I enrolled for the course under the ’Bhavishya Joyti Scholarship’ Scheme in 1998. The course fees consisted of tution fees and other fees. Under this scheme, a student is entitled for a scholarship (25%, 35%, 50% or 100% of the tuition fee) depending upon the marks scored. But I was never told what exactly is the amount of ’tuition fee’ and what the other fees are.

Also, the course, which was supposed to get over in 2 years, took more than 3 years to complete. Few faculties stayed longer than three months because of which the students found it difficult to remain focused. The study material was inadequate and incomprehensive. The exams were postponed every now and then. The results were invariably delayed and the scholarships were never given on time.

But my patience saw its limit in the last semester, which is Semester ’D’. During this semester, 3 different faculties taught the same topics. The teaching was terrible.3/4th students would never turn up for the classes. Finally we did manage to complete the semester in December 2001. But the results were delayed till August 2002. Whenever we approached them for the results they would either say, ’’The marks are not entered in the system’’ or ’’The transcript is sent to Delhi’’ or simply ’’Come next week’’, ’’Come next month’’, ’’Come after 15 days’’. The same thing happened with my scholarship money, which I have been trying to get for the last 15 months. Some of my friends are coming for the scholarship for the last 2 years.

And recently I was told that the ’Bhavishya Joyti Scholarship’ Scheme was withdrawn in December 2001. Now, if the scheme was withdrawn in December 2001, why was my application for scholarship accepted in May 2002? Why was I not told the same when I came on different occasions to enquire about the scholarship?

How can a scheme, which affects my privileges, be withdrawn without informing me? These are some questions, which are going to remain unanswered.

What I completely fail to understand is that when we join NIIT by shelling a huge amount, we are made tall promises, none of which are kept!!!! NIIT is a disgrace to IT Education all over the world.

So if you value your hard earned money, PLEASE DO NOT JOIN NIIT. Instead buy some good computer book from the market and learn computers at home. I promise you will never regret your decision.
