Nikon D70 was the 1st complete Digital SLR Camera launched by Nikon in March 2004. I am using this Camera for almost 3 years and no complain so far. So far, I have took more then 5000 of pictures and used it a lot for Sports photography, Air shows, landscape and portraits.
If you buy the camera, buy it with its 18-70 MM lens, though 18-135 MM and 18-200 MM lens are available but they are pricy. The body is light, battery life is awesome, it seems that it never exhaust. I used for more then 3 hours taking arund 400 pictures in a music concert, and the battery was still good.
The D70s built-in speedlight automatically pops up and fires when
natural lighting is inadequate or to add balanced Fill-Flash when there
is strong backlighting, while the i-TTL technology improves the
accuracy of fill-flash exposure and white balance. Furthermore, the D70
lets you shoot at synchronized speeds up to 1/500 second for great fill
effects under brighter light conditions, and can also be used in
Commander Mode to remotely control multiple wireless SB-600 and/or
SB-800 Speedlights.
Nikon introduced updated version of D70 2005 i.e. D70s and now both of them are discontinued. A stripped down model of Nikon D70s are Nikon D40, D40x(though it has 10.1 MP) and Nikon D50(I think this is also discontinued now) and couple of higher model D80 and D200.
