Nikon Ikon

Carrying over from the Peerless Leader Canon EOS 30 and a sensational EOS 300 I will change the company and come to the next giant in the world of Cameras viz. Nikon. Nikon certainly specializes in cameras and are famous for there Picture Quality. There are wide ranges of models available with Nikon from Single Lens Reflex (SLR), 35 mm, Twin Lens Reflex, to the large format cameras like Press-type Cameras. After the discovery of the first simple Lens and Shutter camera in 1888 by Kodak there has been an improvement and revolution in the world of cameras. Digital revolution has even widened the scope of the field. Some Other old giants are Pentex and Kodak. Kodak being the oldest of the lot is still dominating the market. We had a semi-automatic Pentex camera before Canon EOS 300 with a moderate Zoom. Advent of electronics cameras has certainly changed the definition of photography. Also with better and better lenses coming day by day the quality of the pictures is even better than what we see by our eyes. Technology is slowly overwhelming us and Samsung is yelling Technology shouldn’t overwhelm you. All right lets talk about Photography and review Nikon.

Exposure:

Exposure is also not auto in the camera so the camera doesn’t sense the available light and decides the amount of exposure is needed. You need to adjust the film exposure setting. Exposure Value (EV) numbers sometimes also called Light value Numbers provide way of calculating exposures than using the old conventional f/numbers and shutters speeds. The exposure metering of the camera has an EV numbers range 2-19 for ISO 100. Now ISO as we all know is International Standards Organization. ISO rates films for speeds with a different set of numbers and these ISO numbers. That’s what is ISO 100. Other standard is ASA, which stands for American Standards Association.

Focusing:

Focusing is not automatic in this camera. Focusing has to be done manually. This should be a welcome for Photographers who doesn’t like to depend on technology completely. It is always better to have both manual and Auto control. For beginners it will be a tough to focus. You need a practice and experience to have a swift clear focusing. In bright conditions focusing is easy. Also the indicators provided in the camera will give you good judgment of focusing and distance. You can set your own aperture priority exposure, shutter speed etc. and get the hold of the situation. That would give you feel of how different functions operate and what are results. I’ve been telling in my previous reviews, as you go along you would understand what I mean by flexibility and freedom.

Lens:

There are different types of Lenses. As we learned in School basic are converging and diverging or positive and negative lenses in terms of photography. Converging one is convex and the other one is convex. Telephoto and retro focus lenses have greater focal lengths. Zoom, Macros and Tele-extenders are the third type of lens. Nikon has a 35-70mm f3.5-4.8 lens. The lens is of pretty good quality. The results are very good.

External flash can be attached to have a better range covered.

The camera is not an advanced in comparison to Canon EOS 300 or 30 for instance but it has everything in minimum a Photographer needs. You can always get for different Zoom lens or Powerful flash. Cameras can be upgraded as far as lenses are concerned. Looks wise it has a cool design and style. Cost is a bit higher in spite of lacking many features. It should be around 200$ if I’m not mistaken. I was satisfied with results of snapping.
