Firstly and foremostly, a grocery shop (thats what Nilgiris is) in the middle of Brigade Road seems absolutely out of place.
People come to Brigade Road to have fun, and not to do mundane tasks like shopping for grocery. At least, thats my opinion.
However, looking at the store per se, comparisons are bound to happen with your neighborhood food world, which is firmly entrenched in the city thru a vast network in almost every residential area.
Compared to food world, there is greater variety in this store - be it snacks, vegetables, fruit, juices, chocolates, kitchen accessories - both local made and imported.
However, the location goes against it I must say. People come to Brigade road to have fun, not to do grocery shopping ! Again, thats my personal opinion. Looking at the crowds, the place does seem to have loyal customers, especially considering the bulk buyers and the fancy stuff, which is normally not available, or is available in limited quantities in other stores.
Overall, a great place, but a not positioned properly, both geographically and in the mind. Or maybe they just need a different kind of marketing strategy -- shop for the fruit while you wait for the movie to start?
