Revolutionary in gaming industry

I bought and brought a Wii along with Mario Kart and Sports game with additional controllers and steering wheel for my brother and sister in india a month ago; I purchased all of my stuff in the US as its cheaper there, although not a whole lot of difference; the whole package - nintendo wii, 2 controllers with nunchuks, 2 steering wheels with the mario kart game, wii sports game, and super mario galazy game - for final tag of $450 including a 3 year warranty plan from Walmart.com.

The only drawback of purchasing it overseas is that I had to purchase a voltage converter as in US its 110 volts unlike 220 volts in india. Also as the wii is NTSC, no games purchased in India will most likely work on it.

The price difference I think would have been around 4-5k rupees for all the stuff so not too bad at all. Having said that, the system is definitely a spanking new, fun way of entertainment as my brother and sister found out immediately after plugging it in and holding the controller. For any person who is even slightly a gamer, or remembers the good old nintendo days of cartridges and zelda, and classics such as super mario brothers, this is just the most fun, interactive, novel way of playing video games. It definitely throws off the common notion of a gamer just sitting on a couch pressing away buttons in a fury to score points or complete the levels.

This, for the first time, is a system that emphasizes the experience of playing rather than hurrying to get to the end of the game. It is also the first system ive seen which extracts praise from kids and adults alike. Just the sports disc will keep you busy forever, not to mention the rather impressive range of games nintendo has been able to develop unlike ps3 or even 360 lately. The only drawback, perhaps the biggest one, is the number of accessories that nintendo churned out to make a crazy consumer out of anyone who owns a Wii. Almost every game can come with a unique controller - different types of guns, steering wheel, nunchucks (which do not come together with set usually)- and each of them cost right about $50 bucks, so if you plan on having a library of games and want to have the best Wii experience, be ready to shell out 3-4k rupees here and there to keep your interest in the system. It is however highly addictive, as its novel way of interaction with the game just kindles some curiosity in everyone who holds the controller for the first time.

So a great system, but for the price most people would rather not have their kids standing in front of the tv like mummies and play sports like tennis, baseball etc.; and thats the ironic part: once you do start playing the sports on the Wii, you realize the stupidity in all of this - you are paying about 20k rupees to simulate playing sports on a tv. Games were, back in the days, about killing crazy enemies and creating scenarios not possible in real life, but now we are paying lavishly to do something that can easily and cheaply be done in real life, and more beneficial too.
