Nirmala was published in 1927 and written by the one of the well-known and most renowned writer of India Sahitya Jagat(Literature World) Munsi Premchand. The most interesting thing about Premchand writing is that he writes on the social issues like poverty, superstition, women etc. The last work of Premchand which I read was Kafan(Shroud).
We can call Nirmala the feminist work because it talks about the women and issues with women. The story moving around the young girl Nirmala, who married to an old age widower, but her husband suspects that his wife has sexual relation with his elder son and this suspicion cause the death of his son. The gap between the Nirmala and her husband was too much so it was normal for her husband to Insecure about his wife. But it is proved that every insecurity has a disastrous end.
In todays time, the situation of child marriages etc is not like our past. A young girl marriage with old age men was the minor thing in countryside of India. The story is talking about this issue and the consequence of this types of deeds. It is a kind of historical evidence of women history. The description, narration, characters, setting of the novel is very realistic.
