LOLITA * KABHI ALVIDA NA KEHNA * AMERICAN BEAUTY = NISHABD. Thats how I perceive RAM GOPAL VARMA’s latest offering. first it was with SARKAR, [ whcih VARMA called as his tribute to K3G. and now its KANK’s turn, to which VARMA has paid heed in a different manner. totally against common indian values and beliefs, NISHABD is an eye-opener. VARMA makes it easy for his latest protege to perform. he borrows a lot from her real life while etching her character. single parent, arrogance, upstartness and JIAH KHAN stuns every one with an emotionally naked performance. AMITABH BACHCHAN is at ease playing a hopeless-in-love family man.
but the point-of-focus is.... "Should a 50 year old man, who has "NO COMPLAINTS" with his marital life, think of starting a new relation ?"so what if the girl who drools over him is a new avtaar [ and mind you, equally sensuous too ] of MALILIKA SHERAWAT ?This is the only thing that stood out like a sore thumb in this otherwise compelling drama.
The house interiors and the greenish locales are eye-catching. the camera-work is fantabulous ; the VARMAesque touches are visible. the director uses the most apt shades of blue and green to depict the ambience abound with resurrecting youthfulness and mysterious feelings. the climax was a little puzzled however. ultimately, what NISHABD gave us ? well, a debatable subject, and a worth-while cinematic experience never-the-less.final rating - 1/2cheersharsh
