A Budgeted MPV With Big Intent

On a random evening of a random day of 18th February 2026, I found myself standing in a room buzzing with just the right mix of curiosity and quiet skepticism as Nissan Motors unveiled its latest move for India, the all-new Gravite.

Now launches are usually a cocktail of corporate optimism and cautious applause, but this one felt a little different. Maybe it was the price reveal that had people leaning forward in their seats, or maybe it was the fact that Nissan wasnt trying to sell us aspiration this time; instead, they chose the route of selling practicality, straight up.

And when the Gravite rolled onto the stage, with that ₹;5.65 lakh(ex-showroom) price flashing in bold behind it, you could almost feel the shift and extra stretch of necks in the room.

Pricing: Clearly Meant to Start a Fight

- Visia MT ₹;5.65 lakh

- Acenta MT ₹;6.59 lakh

- N-Connecta MT ₹;7.20 lakh

- N-Connecta AMT ₹;7.80 lakh

- Tekna MT ₹;7.91 lakh

- Tekna AMT ₹;8.49 lakh

- Tekna Launch Edition MT ₹;8.35 lakh

- Tekna Launch Edition AMT ₹;8.93 lakh

The Bookings are already open, with deliveries expected to begin in March 2026.

And standing there, waiting for my turn and listening to murmurs from other media folks around me, one thing became crystal clear: Nissan is banking heavily on value here. Theyre not chasing badge appeal; theyre chasing families who just want seven seats without draining a huge chunk of their life savings.

Under The Hood: Built for Real-World Driving

Underneath it all, the Gravite sits on the CMF-A+ platform; the same architecture thats known for keeping costs in check while offering modular flexibility.

Power comes from a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out:

- 72PS of power

- 96Nm of torque

Also, you get the optional choice between a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, and Nissan confidently claims fuel efficiency figures of:

- 19.3 kmpl(Manual)

- 19.6 kmpl(AMT)

Not exactly the numbers that will set your pulse racing on an open highway. But again, thats not what this MPV is meant for. Its tuned for everyday usability, as stop-start traffic, school runs, office commutes, and those occasional outstation trips where comfort matters more than quick overtakes.

Inside The Cabin: Surprisingly Thoughtful

Once the presentation wrapped up, I spent a good amount of time just exploring the Gravite up close, and this is where it quietly started making sense to me.

The dashboard doesnt scream premium, but it doesnt feel stripped-down either. Theres a nice balance between cost-conscious design and usable tech. Let me expand on what you get out of this balance:

- 7-inch digital instrument cluster

- 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system

- Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

- Push-button start

- Cruise control

- Wireless phone charging

But what genuinely stood out was the seating flexibility from end to end.

The Gravite allows multiple seating configurations from a 2-seater cargo-friendly setup to the full 7-seater family layout. The removable third row and sliding second row mean you can genuinely tweak the cabin depending on whether you’re carrying people or luggage.

And having customizable boot space according to:

- 84 litres(7-seater)

- 320 litres(6-seater)

- 625 litres(5-seater)

So, yes, for something at this price point, thats more than just useful; this proves to be smart packaging.

Safety: This One Factor Got Everyone Talking

Safety isnt something you usually associate with entry-level MPVs, but Nissan made sure that this, too, was a headline feature here.

The Gravite comes with over 45 safety features, with more than 30 being standard across variants, and the highlights include:

- Six airbags

- Electronic Stability Control(ESC)

- ABS with EBD

- Hill Start Assist

- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

- ISOFIX child seat mounts

Six airbags at this starting price? That reveal alone definitely raised eyebrows and more than a few people off their seats, too; all in a good way.

Special Launch Edition: Extra Touches for Early Buyers

Theres also a Launch Edition for those who want a bit more flair right from the start, and this variant comes with:

- JBL premium speakers

- Ambient lighting

- Dual dash cam

- Air purifier

- Lumbar cushions

- Chrome gear bezel

Plus, early buyers are being offered zero service cost for five years, which could be a major draw for families planning long-term ownership.

Final Thoughts From The Launch Floor

Watching the Gravite being unveiled among veterans from outfits like Autocar India, MotorBeam, and Motoroctane, I couldnt help but feel that Nissan knows exactly what its doing here.

Manufactured locally at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, this MPV has clearly been designed with Indian usage patterns in mind, practicality first, showing off later. Also, theres even a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG variant confirmed for the near future, which should widen its appeal even further.

Now, the question is:

- Is it exciting in the traditional, enthusiast sense? - Probably not, and also depends on the individual.

- Is it relevant, sensible, and aggressively positioned? - Oh! very much so.

And here you have it, you either will or you won’t go for it. Because when it comes to suitability, Nissan made sure about one thing: the Gravite will suit anyone who sits inside it.
