This is no Sherlock Holmes, yet...

Like I said...this is not a ’’elementary, my dear Watson’’ type of book. In fact, the title could well be misleading. If one is looking for a book with lots thrills and chills, murder and gore, clues and guesses, they are in for a disappointment. Having said that, I would like to reiterate that this book despite lacking all of the above makes for excellent reading.

The book is set in an unlikely country of Botswana (no American gangs or Italian Godfathers here mind u!). Its a heartwarming story of Mme Ramotswe who inspite of her better judgement starts a detective agency. Interwoven between the small cases she solves is the life story of Mme Ramotswe, her triumphs and failures.

The narration is a finely woven fabric of the life in Botswana, the natives and their desires/dreams and the struggle of a nation trying to blend modernity with traditional values. The best thing about the book is its simple style of narration which is unpretentious at the same time involving. All I can say is that I enjoyed the peek into Africa, and I am sure you all will too!!!
