Bollywood has tried his hand on True life stories and women centric film but both have not been very successful, but NOKJ attempt to portray a true story and that too a women centric film in itself is a highly risky affair, but Director Rajkumar Gupta have successfully delivered the story in wholesome entertaining manner.
The story revolves around the infamous Jessica Lal murder case. Jessica Lal an aspiring model is killed by Manu aka Manish Bhardwaj in front of 300 people for just refusing to serve alcohol after the legitimate hours.
The hostility of the key witnesses, trial, redemption and ultimately Justice forms the crux of this film. Jessica lal is played by a Debutant Myra Karn, Vidya plays her sister Sabrina who fights for her justice and Rani plays the agressive journalist Mira who wants to get justice for Jessica Lal at any cost when justice was denied.
The film works in part. Some of the scene are so laborious that it makes you yawn. This is a serious film yet its dialogue makes you laugh. The director has ensured that this true story doesnt become yet another documentary affair.
There are enough spices in the film to make it entertaining yet thought provoking. The ending of the film may disappoint you as it comes all of a sudden.
The first half of the film is unnecessarily stretched. The duration could have been an hour or so before the interval. The film is slow but it does leave an impact. Screenplay was good but again could have been better.Cinematography was A-1.Music by Amit Trivedi is awesome, specially two tracks Dilli and aali re.
Talking of the acting, Vidya and Rani both played thier part to perfection. where Vidya dominates the first half of the film , Rani takes it in the other half.
The debutant Myra have great potential. she is beautiful and is a wonderful actress. Neil Bhoopalam playing Vikram Jai Singh was also good. The person playing the role of the Inspector was equally good. Others were just fine.
Talking of the two best scene in the film : first is the opening scene of the film where Jessica Lal gets Shot at. The 2nd one being the confrontation of Rani and Vidya when Rani convinces Vidya to fight for Jessica again.
The finest part of the movie was its narration and Background Music. if u r not a Delhite, you ll come to know some gross realities about this City obsessed with Power.....
and ya film is strictly for adults as some of the words used in the film are objectionable.
Happy Movieing.......
