Mobile Necessity 'ReDefined'

Mobile Necessity’ReDefined’

I can remember a dialogue from movie Deewar where Amitab Bachan asks "Aaj mere paas gaadi hai, bangla hai, paisa hai. tumhare paas kya hai?" and Shashi Kapoor replies, "Mere paas maa hai". Similar is our life today. While getting updated with different aspects of technology, we forget what is our basic necessity!

From a stage of big and heavier phones where having a different polyphonic ringtone was like being in paradise, we have arrived in the stage of smartphone where we have applications for almost everything. These days camera and MP3 are not only the ultimate part of our phone, but games, internet browsing and applications have taken mobiles to another level. Still, the problem of battery life always keeps disconnecting us from the main purpose of’mobile’ i.e. connectivity. More ever, we always need to be careful while we talk on phone on crowd/public places because among those reading this review there might be very few people who have never lost/misplaced your mobile phone.

Last vacation, during June-July when I was in my home, the battery problem in my old phone X3 affected me the most. I decided to buy a smart phone, but looking to my necessity of current time, I realized my primary and basic need is a mobile phone where I can keep my phone switch on for longer time. So, before going back I picked Nokia 107 as my mobile phone.  My friend had a question, "When its the time of updating to smart phone level, why I have chosen this phone, My answer was, "Mobile Necessity ReDefined".

My Necessity:

My objective of buying this phone was to use it as primary phone for basic use for long term. Though I also needed an smart phone, but as a rough user, while using different application on phone, I often had ended up my battery, so this time, I needed a phone where there could be’call’ and nothing else. Nokia 107 has FM radio and MP3 player.

Specification of Phone:-

Dual Sim: The phone comes as Dual Sim Phone with Dual Stand By. The sim card to be inserted is mini sim(i.e. our regular sim card). If we are using it as call purpose, one sim card slot may be sufficient, but having an extra won’t be the problem.

1.8 inch display is sufficient enough for normal use. Though we can’t expect quality display, this much is acceptable. This display is suitable for normal text display but not for image display.

FM With Music Player:  The additional option of FM and music player is like a plus point. Though FM quality is average and with Music Player, you might not have great experience like in other high class phone, but its always good to be entertained with our favorite number during the journey. The headphone of 3.5 mm Jack is used here. But as other Nokia Phone, it may not support all type of music format. More ever, since this phone is not for Image purpose, Don’t expect it to open Images of size of more than 200 KB.

Expandable Memory:- The internal memory is just 8 MB, but the  expandable memory of phone supports Micro SD card upto 16 GB. I suggest, for uninterrupted use, use maximum of 8 GB memory card. Since there is no Bluetooth, we can transfer data in Memory  Card through Card Reader and Laptop.

Long Battery Life: One of the best feature I liked on this mobile is 1020 mAh battery  which is giving minimum  8 hours talktime and 10 days stand by.(Though Nokia Claims to be 12 hours talk time  and 22 days stand by, I am writing it as per minimal use). So with this, even if you are in long journey, you can be sure of uninterrupted connection till you find network through your service provider.

Contacts Book:- Space of 500 contacts available may be less, but with sim card having additional 250 phone book memory, we can keep upto 750 contacts in total. And you can prefer  deleting unnecessary contacts if you carrying another phone too.  Mostly the problem people experience(this happens in most of Nokia Phone) is that when they have same number saved in both phone and sim memory, the name of caller doesn’t get display during incoming call. So, for this, either we can prefer saving a contact either in just one of memory or using the setting of memory in use as’only phone’ for phonebook.

Less Weight: Weight of less than 80 grams along with battery is light enough.

Accessibility

Being a Series 30 phone, it is user friendly and can be used by all. It is available in three different colors. Typing message is comfortable and outer cover looks durable. There are few normal application like calculator, calendar and simple games. Using Nokia 107 won’t be a problem for anyone.

Negative point

Well, people might say this phone doesn’t have’this feature’ and’that’, but according to price, things are perfectly fine. Nokia 108 has primary camera of 0.3 mp and Bluetooth connectivity. But this will cost you 250 INR more than Nokia 107. The call quality is not upto the mark of Nokia, but with the help of headphone, you can handle calls efficiently. Battery Backup is not upto the level Nokia has mentioned, still it is enough for long run.

Servicing:

With the brand of Nokia, we can be worry free. The phone comes with one year warranty and as far as I am sure, Nokia has a very good service throughout the country.

Price:

The current online price is Nokia 1650. If you add 8 GB memory card, your total cost will be within INR 2000. With the reliability of Nokia, we can use a phone for minimum two years even with rough use. This means per month expense is less than INR 100 for using this phone.

The final word:-

This phone can be best utilized when you have one more phone with higher multimedia feature(if you need those higher level phone). But if you are the one who is uncomfortable in using two phones and if battery backup is not your problem, you may not be needing this.

My rating:

3.5 out of 5
