Nokia have been turning out new cell phone models every other month. But with the 1100 they have succeeded in bringing out something different. I think the 1100 with its made for India label is the perfect substitute for the 3310 as the cheap, common mans mobile phone. Its simple, yet different, and can make it easily to the top of the market, as its the one many people have been searching for.
Looks:
The most striking feature about this one is its appearance. The new keymat is the most visible difference. It is a single mat with the buttons all integrated onto it. Thats really innovative. The phone is also very light and slim, weighs about 80-90 g. Its neatly crafted, all edges are round, but it does not quite have the lines and finish of a samsung. about the anti slip grip, I dont think much about it. it can still slip from your hand. The panels can be changed, and there are a lot of colors to choose from- green, black, white, purple, orange, yellow, blue, red... but the phone still feels plasticky in your hand, as do all Nokias.
Features:
Nothing much different from other Nokias. The Menu interface and the all the stuff is the same as in any Nokia phone. It has all the features u expect from an average monochrome display phone. Add book, SMS, stopwatch, alarm, the works. The big addition here is the flashlight, which can be accessed via the cancel button on the keymat. It produces bright white light, and can be very useful. also, the on-off switch is on the keymat, so u dont have to go around pressing the top of the phone. Then, yes, u can send and recieve ringtones, but the composer is in the extras menu. The display is the 3310 yellow display, and in this age of white and color displays, I think its little old-fashioned.
Battery and Network:
The battery backup is where the 1100 blows the competition to hell. It has a backup time of 4 to 4 and a half days(!) on decent usage, 2 to 3 days on heavy usage and 6 days on minimal usage. also the battery is very thin, only about 6mm thick. Theres no other phone in the market today that can match the battery of this one. The network reception is decent, the same capacity as the 3310. The earpiece volume is very high, in a silent room u have to actually hold ur phone away from your ear!
Summing it up:
In fact this is just another 3310 or 2100 wearing designer clothes, but most people are on the lookout for a phone like this, and if u are on of then, this one is 4 u. Its a real bargain, for just Rs 2750, with box and warranty A slim, smart looking phone with mind blowing battery backup, which can double up as a torch when necessary, and all the works of an average mobile phone. The only sour point here is the yellow display and the stupid Nokia fonts. But u can have em all, can you?
Cheers!

UPDATE!
1100s seem to have developed a problem, it seems that if you put any other sim other than that of the provider which was originally inserted, it shows network problems after some time. For example if you put a Hutch sim when you bought the mobile, if you put the sim of any other provider, say airtel or idea or bsnl or
anything, network problems will occur it seems.
Anyways, this phone is a little out of fashion now, but the made in india tag still hangs on, and is the best one still for people who want to be in touch cheap, and for whom mobiles dont mean any gadgetry, just calling!
Thank you sooooo much all MS-ians and others, who have given soo many hits to this review!! I am overwhelmed!!
