Well Phone cannot be all-in-one device. But it can be multi-purpose tool. You should not be at your mobiles beck & call, but mobile should be at your beck & call
Size matters ( you can carry full-fledged PC as a back-pack or a credit card-sized device in your pocket)
Rugged reliablity matters: you go about your natural life duties, running & squezzing in a bus, walking in rain, playing cricket etc without having to think about whatz in your pocket.
FM radio must be made mandatory by govt on all phones: If your are caught in bombay floods, your lovely expensive phone is just a bar soap. The phone network is either flooded with water or people. FM radio is a must to get latest news reagrding any transport services(trains, buses, taxis..if the govt impliments one diaster radio broadcast frequency for every city nation-wide; better believe the private stations to give infomation about any service, yeah Chief-Minister will also flood you with "stay calm" SMSs, also to the person who is outside bombay at the time, which you will receive the next day after the floods have gone, as the networks are now over the flood line..whoosh.. they are adding to the network congestion problem during emergencies) OR just hearing local chitramala while travelling late night in a bus, or just hearing news when waiting for that long lost bus/train at stations. It an inexpensive(!?) device which now-a-days a fruit-seller also carries with him. Make good use of this communication tool.
One Headset: so not to disturb other or while driving(!?)..or listening.. handsfree.. Its saves battery life
Electronic notepad: unless you are one of those geeks who want an IR port just to take another phone number, or bluetooth to transfer files to PC, another port to expand memory..how many tooths you need for every function..Just once wire/port to connect & lots of memory to take down whatever you want in english/sign-codes/pictorial/sweet handwriting. No limit on what you can put down on a piece of paper-screen; havnt hear of tocuh sensitive screens & USB ports that carry current as well as data..One hole(socket ) is enough for the phone.
Dont need camera/video/audio .. watch them in large screens at home & enjoy Mallika Sherawat life-size.
Auto reply SMS: to send when you are in meeting. onc fetaure I would like is send an auto-reply(either voice or text) to any who calls that Iam driving/in meeting/ in toilet(when set in that auto-reply mode with a specific message)
Auditing: I want the mobile to keep track of whom I have called, when I have made & their duration. The information has to be there till it fills my space or I choose to delete. or print it out or mail it to myself.
Common memory: where you decide what you to keep & what you want to delete. 100 addresses, 2 phone number per contact, space for 10 songs... bullshit.
Get rid of those stupid games, let the user decide the game he wants to download thru PC( internet is vast & lots of games are free..watch out viruses..you mobile phone is like a knife, use it to cut your bread or yourself.
key pad: one to call, one to end call, stupid; If the menus are more then 3 levels, thow the phone out; If the keys are smaller than you smallest finger nail, use a hammer to smash the phone; If the fonts are very small, ask the manufacture a free magnifying glass, If the fonts are big ask for a reverse-binoculars. The design has to be elegant & not be designed as a scooter with a load on one side, or like every bike that has different gear-style. It has to be initutive. Use touch sensitive screen for keypad (paste a transparent replaceable plastic with number patterns on it, it will protect the screen a;so, do you need the button- keypad?? well screen-size can be increased with key-board displayed on it..in camera mode(if present) the keypad disappears...)
None of the mobile phone have these basic functionality, within Rs2000. Just like in hotels, they give complimentary sambhar, sauce, chips & bill you Rs 500 for 1-plate plain idli. There are lots of mobile phone models giving compilmetary fatures which you never use. How many use phone video or camera when you go for trips.. Well I just want idli & chutney with hot tea. The manufacturers use the trick of dispersing the features across models to sell more phones to so called "phone-collector-junkies".
Your mobile is ringing or my mobile is ringing?..Ring tones: let the phone play some specified music file. (let the user decide what is in that music file & let him create it on his guiter/tabla or download from internet, & upload it to phone thru PC)
Some defaults: calculator, alarm, clock, reminder; (Dont need currency converter..oh yeah I thought it gets real time values from RBI network..)
(AND for those really awkward guys(not me), why not thow add a digital compass, gps-locator into the phone...instead of that stupid feature that shows photo of the person called, his private ringtone, silly puzzles)
I am choosy when buying even a pen, yeah Dil mange more quality & value for money
