I bought this beauty just a few days back and Im getting really impressed at how
useful its turning out to be! If you use your phone for what its meant to be (talking and messaging),
this phone is simply THE BEST. Let me go over some of its wonderful features,
- Amazing battery life. It gives you 7 hours of talk time and will keep ticking over on
standby for well over two weeks.
VERY bright flashlight (much much brighter than the one which was in Nokia 1100....will light up an entire room!) which has been so immensely useful for me on so many occassions that now I wonder what I would have done without it! It certainly helps have a lot to have a small torch in your pocket :)
A UNIQUE call cost management feature that I havent seen in any other mobile. Once you activate it, it asks you the desired time duration for every outgoing call. For example, if you are low on balance and just want to talk for 1 minute, set the timer to 00:59 (not 1:00 as your service provider will charge you for 2 minutes) and the call will disconnect exactly after 59 seconds! This is great for people like me who treasure every rupee of their balance :D Believe it or not, this feature is very useful.
Multi-phonebook is another unique feature which allows every person in a family to have SEPERATE phonbooks (or contacts lists). Great if you intend to share your cell with many family members. It has upto 4MB memory for all your contacts and SMS which is really good.
This phone was meant to be rugged and tough and it sure is. It has a one-piece keypad so that water doesnt get in easily.
The phone does a great job of holding on to a signal, even in areas
where the coverage is patchy.
- Its got a yellowish backlight which is VERY EASY on the eyes....unlike high-end phones where
your eyes start tingling and watering in seconds if ur operating them in the dark...
- This phone has no FM. I wish it had but Im still quite happy. I guess FM is a battery hog and I need a good long battery life, a phone I can rely on. So this is a plus point from one perspective :)
I got this from Mobile World for just 1050 (I gave my previous Nokia 1100 and they gace me Rs. 400 for it) so its price was 1450 here in Kolkata.
I was torn between Motofone and this Nokia 1200 but Im glad I bought this one instead of Motofone. Motofone doesnt have a flashlight or call cost features. I think Motofones have not been too much of a hit in India. Had they included a flashlight in Motofone, I guess it would have been more popular!
I hope this review helps someone make an informed decision.
Take care n cheers!
With warm regards,
Yasser
UPDATE 24th April 2008: Id just like to say that I agree with the comment here that
the loudspeaker volume is bit low. I didnt realize this until I compared the sound
with Nokia 1112 which my mom uses.....1112s speaker volume is definitely superior
to to this cell. Speaker volume is OK stuff....
One more thing. Ive noticed another small glitch in this phone that it happens to
restart by itself sometimes...this doesnt happen too often but happens nonetheless.
Other than this, this is a good phone for ppl who just talk n sms. And the super bright
torch comes very very handy....
UPDATE 25th April 2008: OK Ive just heard that theres now a solution if ur Nokia 1200
happens to autostart itself on those rare occasions...just go to Nokia Care and have
your firmware updated...theyll probably do it for free...problm solved :)
