As u know, I am going for my engg. But even so, it was a surprise when yesterday all of a sudden my dad took me to a Nokia - SonyEricsson dealer after a shopping spree. I thought he might be having troubles with his J200i. But then he said Choose karo. I was like What?!. But then after checking out a hell of a lot of mobiles - from expensive to bare-basic, colour, b/w, and all the nuisances of mobiles, It came between the Sony J200i and the Nokia 2600 - (I didnt want to buy one more expensive than my fathers at the moment). But I didnt want to buy a phone I am using (partially) for the last 4 months. Hence the 2600.
Now if you want Camera, GPRS and MMS plus WAP look elsewhere but if you need anything lesser, 2600 is the buy. A basic colour phone with some really cool surprises:
Drool value + Ergonomics - 9/10
For this price, the looks are the best in the range. It really is a treat. The black keypad with grey cover plus a silver lined screen is just great. And I mean it. It can easily pass off as a 8Grand+ cell. The keypad too is awesome. I just love the nav key. SEs joystics are too twitchy and sharp-edged. This ones a breeze to use. Built well too. Feels good in the palm with its anti-skid sides and good design.
Usage Comfort - 7/10
The scree is much better than any other mobile of this range. It clearly beat the near SEs. It is averagely customizable. Not good. Mobile these days is an extension of ones persona and I feel customization is important to people of my age. But Ill do with it. Why? Read the last line when ure through. The speakerphone is a tad less loud but I do not need it. Ringtones aplenty but u can not download anything - a big minus. The software speed is great. But the settings are a bit hard to find. I wudve liked them to have been stacked together. The display in the day is bad and youll have to use your retinas more than usual.
Features - 7/10
No MMS, WAP, Camera. But other than that, it is very good in terms of itsy-bitsy accessories. The spreadsheet is a great one. I personally am gonna need it in Rourkela. Other features are regular stuff other than the converter - another cool accessory (especially if u dislike the calci). The game Bounce rocks - and you can trust me when I say so, I guess! And I though mobile gaming is for newbies! The 5 profiles are good to have but you can not change the names. Also no multiple-entries so your friends will have double roles like Rahul1, Rahul2!! I had trouble with the charger and got it replaced today.
Overall - 8/10
It looks great. It really does. It works better than average and navigation is easy. 30 themes, 39 polyphonic ringtones are enough and good but nothing to download. Highly customizable Spreadsheet is awesome accessory and so is the converter. 30sec backlight is bonus. Games (important for yours truly) are good enough. The J200i other than the GPRS and the screen quality, fails to match with the 2600. But my dad wont agree with me ... and for obvious reasons. And now the last line -
I have been promised the N-gageQD by year end. But thats another reason altogether to be happy...
