A feature rich phone at a great price

I was always reluctant to get myself a new phone when my existing phones were working fine, but had always wished to try something new, and finally I got my chance... about two weeks ago my wife’s mobile just went blank, it was a Motorola W375 (if I remember the model name right). Ah... I had waited for such day for quite some time.. I was getting an opportunity to buy a new phone..

I quickly opened up a lot of review sites and after reading umpteen reviews on various phones I was totally confused... it was a working day and almost time to leave office and I had no idea what to buy.. as a final attempt I opened the univercell website, went to the nokia section (my wife was adamant - she would only buy a nokia!!).

I did a quick search for a phone which had all features (i.e. Camera, FM, Bluetooth, Email & MP3 as per the website) and selected budget as less than 5000, as expected I did not get many phones, there were 3 phones which fit the criteria and the Nokia 2700 Classic immediately caught my eye. I quickly went through its specification and at a price of Rs.3885/- I had made my choice.

First impressions - This phone is a beauty, it comes in 3 colors, black, grey & brown. I chose the black as it looked professional. It has a silver color rim running across its sides and a similar finished 4-way navigation key. It has plastic back cover of very good quality . The key pad was of reasonable size and convenient even if you have large fingers. Once I had switched it on, I noticed the strikingly rich colored screen, it has a very large digital clock on the home screen which I really liked. The signal, battery and other icons were also larger than usual, once you navigate to the menu or any other detailed screen the icons resize themselves and become smaller.

Feature set - its pretty good - it comes bundled with a 1 GB memory card, and supports max 2 GB, has bluetooth version that supports playing music over a wireless bluetooth enabled device, has a good quality built in speaker, a 2 mega pixel camera (no built in flash), FM Radio and EDGE for faster internet browsing.

Some features that I really liked

1. Has 3.5 mm audio jack - excellent I can now use any headset I want or connect it to a set of speakers of my choice. I normally connect  the phone to my TV to play music.

2. Email Client - under the messages menu item you can configure any pop3 enabled email account if you have subscribed for packet data

3. Has a built in Maps application (under the Organizer menu) and can download new maps, does not have a built in GPS but can connect to bluetooth GPS device and supports voice instructions

4. Supports web services which allows you to connect, for example to Facebook without having to go via the phones browser

5. The music player has an equalizer and a stereo widening option, which gives you a surround sound effect

6. Supports extra large font while navigating through your contacts

7. Allows you to type flash messages - these messages come directly opened on the receiver’s phone!

8. A decent battery life, can last upto 3 days without charge at 30 minutes of talking, 10 minutes of browsing, 30 minutes playing songs on the loud speaker everyday

9. Its a quad band phone so it will work even in the US

All in all a great phone at a great price and that’s why I convinced my wife to use my old phone while I am using this now ;) I hope she forgets and doesn’t ask it back !!!
