This phone looks like the 2100 and 1100 so much that others may not recognize the fact that you own a more expensive phone, unless you take pains to point out the color display. It offers a larger screen, and 4096 colors, compared to its poorer cousins, but loses out markedly in comparison with the other phones with 65K colors, which cost maybe 1-2 thousand more.
Most of the other features are the same as in the 2100 and 1100 series. One distinct disadvantage is that the screen, though backlit, is un-readable in direct sunlight, and you have to shade the screen with one hand to be able to read a message if you are outdoors.
The company claims that the phones cover has a band which glows in the dark, but I found that the glow only lasts for a short while after you switch off the room light- really useless if you want to find the phone in the dark.
Another problem is that the plastic covers that come with the phone are very flimsy, and tend to break even if you scrape you thigh on a desk-edge or something like that. The phone has a wide port at the bottom for connecting to a PC, and this is a problem in dusty areas as the whole port tends to fill up with dust.
The plastic pouches available at shops are useless, as most of them have corresponding cuts to allow you to use the port without removing the cover.
This phone, like the catchy advertisement slogan for Amul chocolates goes, is too costly for a basic phone, but not good enough to be called high end. But maybe, just right for you, and your budget? (about Rs. 5200 now-June 2005)
