5300 - Exciting New Phone

Ever since I started surfing mouth shut, was eagerly waiting to write a review myself. Now, having used the newly launched Nokia 5300 for 12 days, I am here to write my feed back on this unconventional Nokia.

First of all, I was glad to get back to Nokia after spending some 1.5 years with the slim and sexy RAZR which taught me the hard ships of life. I fell so much in

love with the looks of the black beauty(had V3) that all the pains seemed to be insignificant. I will miss you sexy.

Now coming to 5300; I was looking for a   phone with good music capabilities with sufficient memory, a decent camera and obviously loud speaker feature(though this is a basic feature nowadays, but can’t live without it). Keeping my budget of 10-13K into consideration, my shortlist featured N72, SE W700i, Nokia 6233 etc. Initially I wanted a slider phone and explored few Samsungs, but limited features  at all the price ranges removed them from the shortlist and therefore, I gave up the idea of buying a slider. Enter 5300

The N 72 was ruled out coz of not so good music quality which I experienced myself. SE W700i obviously had better 2 MP camera with flash and guess a better sound too, but still I chose Nokia due to my new infatuation  to a slider phone.

5300, as I already said, is an unconventional Nokia - fantastic design, great looks, sturdy, the slider too is solid though it does not seem to be,  wonderful features and  so very user friendly.

The screen switches to horizontal view as soon as we switch on the camera. I would have loved to play games in the horizontal view, but that’s not available.   Infact in the horizontal view nothing except   the camera is available. Camera is decent with basic features. The output on the computer screen is also good. The shutter speed is very slow which forces you to take special care in keeping the phone rock steady while taking pictures.

Coming to music, good sound on the headphone, no complains on that.  The loud speaker has pretty loud sound, but with the high volume the speakers look vulnerable. So better to play music as 2 points less than the most loud point. I am still to figure out, how to switch a custom music play list, if any body can help me with that?

The sound during phone calls is loud and clear. The active standby mode is very user friendly. Though the he clock on the screen should have bigger font.

The amazing thing in the phone is the super fast software - this was the thing I was afraid of as Nokia is known for the slow softwares in the high end phone. The sales man claimed that is due to pirated version of the software which people load on their phone - have no idea if this is true.

The 256 MB micro SD also functions as a memory stick, so you have the option of saving word, excel files etc on the phone - a very useful feature.

Overall a fantastic phone.

The negatives are the insufficient battery life and  distorted loud speaker sound at high volumes.

Few extras which would have made 5300 unbeatable are a flash, better video capability, and a black color.
