SMARTPHONE IN DISGUISE

I have been using this phone since 4 months so now is the right time to go in for a detailed review.

MUSIC

Good music player, dedicated sound processor, dedicated music and volume keys take care of everything. Audio quality is at par with most mid range MP3 players. Preset equalizers are there which can be edited to your taste and new ones can also be created. And not to mention BASS BOOST and STEREO WIDNING sound enhancements. But if u use good aftermarket earphones(costing excess of 700 rupees) then u don’t need to switch to bass boost/stereo widening. I am using SONY MD series earphones.

Playlists can be created/deleted but “playlist on the go” feature is not supported i.e. you can’t add songs to already playing playlist. 3.5mm jack is there inbuilt if u wish to use BOSE or SENHIZZER earphones! As the free earphones provided in the box are good for taking calls only.

CAMERA

Useless. Even worse than 1.3 megapixel found in 6630. Dual LED flash is there if u like flaunting your phone! But I don’t care because I take DIGICAM every time I holiday. And phones were never meant to be good snappers I suppose(judging by their small lens aperture and small CCD). NOKIA is only providing good cameras in N-series.

BATTERY

It has a 890mAh battery which is not big by any means but packs enough juice to keep your phone running at least 24 hours. Charge every morning or evening and you will never run out of power. Provided-

Brightness of screen is 25%(enough for even outdoor use)

Switch EDGE/GPRS mode to “when needed” instead of “always online”

This way you squeeze out a lot of talk time, and playing music doesn’t affect battery life much(on earphones).

SCREEN

2 inch screen is by no means big but sharp 240*320 resolution(same as N-85) takes care that adequate amount of text is squeezed into it and it remains fairly readable at the same time. Font size throughout menu can be decreased/increased.

OPERATING SYSTEM

The phone has SYMBIAN 60 operating system(9.2.3 version I suppose) which is one of the best operating system for Smartphone and PDA. Yes it is a proper Smartphone without a slide out keyboard and Wi-Fi. Use bundled apps or install now ones(DivX player, scientific calculator, Opera web browser, Smart data encryption, Zip manager, etc).

HARDWARE

To support this feature full OS the mobile comes with 128MB RAM and 369MHz Processor(ARM11 type). It also has dedicated sound processor for superior audio quality. 120MB of inbuilt phone memory is quiet handy. Anyways I am using a SANDISK HC 8GB card which is fully filled with my entire music collection. The phone is very responsive and will easily digest cards up to 16GB(or perhaps more).

NET BROWSING

Phone is quiet capable, will open almost all heavy sites, but you’ll be turned off by it’s small screen if you want to do all the surfing through phone only. Otherwise it’s ok for occasional surfing. No Wi-Fi is there, but has full 3G support and a front camera.

USB/SYNC

Unlike SONY, it uses global standard microUSB port. U can use it as a pen drive without getting into hassle of installing drivers. Sync can also be done but for it u need to have PC suit. Backup of messages/contacts can be made through PC suit. I’ll soon update the data transfer rate.

If you require a Smartphone and also love music, the phone is tailor made for you.
