Overall, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is a great phone.
I love the feature where you can place pictures of your most often texted or called girlfriend(s) on the main screen and if you want to contact them, you can just touch their images. Very convenient that you dont have to go through a web of menus for a simple call or text.
I criticized the camera before but I changed my mind. It isnt a crappy camera after all. You just have to know the very very fundamentals of photograpy, that is, to shoot in good light and that flashes are good only at a certain distance. You wont get a good picture at night if your subject is beyond the range of the flash(about 8 feet?). That goes for most point and shoot digital cameras! Not an exceptional camera, but good nonetheless. Decent enough to capture memories. Remember, this is primarily a cellphone!
The 8 gig memory card that comes with it is really something. Thats even more space than the hard disk I had in my computer 9 years ago
Whats crappy about Nokia phones in general are its EARPHONES! They keep falling off my ears(I may have big ears). I solved that by buying A4tech earphones. They are cheap but the sound they produce are AWESOME. You can also try Sony or Phillips earphones, but they are more expensive.
GPS. All it does is search for sattelites. Arent there any hovering above Southeast Asia? My friends car has a navigator, and it easily captures sattelite feeds. Why cant my Nokia? Can I sue Nokia if I get lost in the middle of nowhere and the GPS cant detect those damn satellites? Or am I using it wrong? Maybe somebody here can give me a tip or two on that.
Aside from what Ive complained and complimented above, all the other features are great - the QWERTY keyboard, the shifting of the display to portrait or landscape orientation, etc. But sometimes you get disoriented because at the slightest movement of your hand, the display shifts.
Hey, no phone is perfect. I highly recommend it for the budget conscious techie who wants a phone with a multitude of features.
For its price, its a great phone. I got it for the equivalent of 15200 rupees here in the Philippines.
