Before writing the review I just went through a few of the negative remarks drawn by this phone. And I am really surprised! Like in one place one person says it comes only in two colors, blue or red. Another place I see one says the GPS doesn’t work. Phone is a finger print magnet. Etc, etc.
Well, I am using this phone for the last 3 months and I would say I am very happy with this one. This is my 2nd touch screen phone (previously I had a Motorokr, and have written a review for that 1 also). The technical specs of the phone can be found in the net so I wont bother about that. The user experience is fantastic. I am not sure there is another TS phone in the market in the same price range and having these many features. The GPS works fine, and is very responsive. Wifi is also good.
The screen size allows a very comfortable browsing experience. Though I think the default browser provided by Nokia could have been improved. There is no option to save a web page, atleast I haven’t found one. Though it can be easily taken care of by using the Opera mini. The call quality is upto the usual Nokia standard and I haven’t faced any kind of call drop issue because of the phone. Sms typing has all the possible options. The virual numpad was missing in the rokr E6 and it really comes in handy in this phone.
Nokia has come up with their 1st TS phone as an entertainment device and in this department I would give full marks to them. The sound quality is quite good, though the earpieces are quite clumsy. But that can be negated with the 3.5 mm jack where you can put in any standard earphones you want. The loudspeaker volume is also loud enough to my liking. The best part I feel is the 8 GB storage card. You can store upto as many songs u want. And an 8 GB card also offers you the freedom to store movies without compromising on the quality. The big screen gives a good movie experience which is very handy when you are travelling. Games whatever provided are also good to keep you occupied and you can download the compatible ones. And with an awesome battery back up u r sure to be entertained on a long journey.
But this phone is not without minor glitches. Being an entertainment phone it does not come with preinstalled office document viewer, but there is a option to download it for free. The accelerometer takes a good time to respond for the 1st time. Camera is not that great for night snaps (though there is a flash option). You can’t mark items with a single touch (other nokia phones do that with the help of the edit or hash button).
You cant save a web page using the default browser. Its a bit bulky compared to others. But I don’t think color of the phone can be a issue. And every TS phone is a finger print magnet. All phones get dirty or dust setles in them over a period of time. S/w hanging is also a problem but its present in every touch screen phone that I have seen (Moto, HTC, Samsung...... I havent seen the iphone so can’t say). I don’t want to compare this with any other phone, but with the price range I believe this is the best TS phone available in the market right now.
