Why go for Nokia 5800???

I got myself this wonderful piece of tech around 7 months back. Before buying it, I read some reviews online & watched a few video reviews as well. Many people dint give a positive review. But I wanted a touch screen ph & I already had a Windows Mobile & Android was not yet out by then. iPhone is purely a waste of money & hence, I had to zero on this ph. So I went to the Nokia Priority & bought it. Since then, there has not been a single moment when I’ve regretted this investment.

Hardware: This ph is one of the high end phs from Nokia. It has a n HD resolution 3.2" touch screen, 3.2 MP cam at the back and a VGA front cam for video calls. Stereo speakers and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack which also is a TV out jack. It has 5 hardware button, send, end & menu on the front, cam button & volume rocker on the right side. Apart from these, there are no hardware button. It has BlueTooth 2.0, WiFi, 3G & a mini USB port which is used to connect to the PC using the provided USB cable. It has a microSD card slot & come pre-loaded with a 8 GB card, this is more than enough for all the music, vids & pics one can possibly want on a ph. The ph also has an ambient light sensor, which means that the brightness of the display adjusts itself according to the lighting in the environment you are using it in. If the its dark, the brightness is reduced & increased otherwise. The 3.2MP cam is good, gives decent quality shots. There are the usual standard options & nothing really special to talk about this. I can just say that is very good for outdoor shots and for indoor shots, the dual LED flash works just fine, but not always.

This is not a full fledged digital cam & the drawbacks of that are quiet evident.

Software: The phone runs on Symbian S60V5. Its the latest version of Symbian OS available. The latest update as on date is V50. This update introduces kinetic scrolling to the menus. The previous update (update V40) introduced kinetic scrolling inside the menus. The update v40 also removed the T9 keypad in the landscape mode. Now, if u rotate ur ph to landscape mode, u directly get a full QWERTY keypad, which is good move. The media player on this ph is good. Has all the standard options which are found on other similar phones. Real Player is used as the default video player. You can install apps like the

SmartMovie if u wish to have more video playback options. The photo gallery is also good. U can just slide sideways to navigate through the photos. Kinetic scrolling is available in the gallery also.

There is a special media bar on the top right corner of the ph. If tapped, it pops a menu which has shortcuts to media player, photo gallery, online sharing, video gallery & web browser. The standby screen has 3 themes, normal, shortcut bar & contacts bar. The normal theme is plain & has nothin on the screen. The shortcut bar can house 4 shortcuts to application on the screen & the contacts bar has shortcuts to contacts on the top & shortcut bar at the bottom. This particular feature is very useful.

Final verdict: The ph is really awesome. You will just love the display & its clarity. The only thing I hate about this ph is the bundled in-box ear piece. Its just waste. The sound clarity is good but bass is just absent. Music becomes a pain in this. If u r ready to use some other ear phones, its not a prob. I use a Sony earphone with the ph & its pleasant.

I suggest this ph to everyone who can afford it & has the patience to use a touch screen ph.. :)
