BLACK PEARL- FLAWED BUT .....

Buying a cell in today’s time is not easy...so many choices , so many handsets , so many features...Phew !!!!

But the first two cells that I bought were Nokia’s and since the experience was good , I thought it’s time to go back for Nokia this time around as well...

At my budget of 5K-6K , the choices were somewhat limited and my eyes fell on that black beauty of Nokia - 6030....

Without further ado , I bought it at Rs 5150...The phone is not perfect , however...

Most of the reviews in MS have sung praises of the phone....So let me start by saying the con’s instead...

For detailed pro’s you can either visit the nokia website or look into the other reviews posted here on MS...

CONS

1) Unlike Nokia 2600 - my earlier phone - you can’t have different wallpapers for different profiles....so e.g if you put ur cell in the ’ silent ’ mode and then forgot about it , you are well, gone !! Of course , the word ’ silent ’ is there on the screen , but won’t it be easier to spot a different wallpaper for different profiles then look out for a small word on the screen...

2) Now this one really irks me...the delivery reports in all Nokia phones come’s without any sound nowadays...so if ur message is pending it’s difficult to know when it got delivered , if at all it got delivered !! And this phone goes one step even further - there is no pending reports here !! So if ur message is pending , you won’t see the ’Pending’ report...It’s as if nothing happened...In the sent message folder everything is put as ’ Recipient ’...strange word that....

3) There is no way to change the volume of the ’ Message tone ’...and believe me , it’s extremly low... the ringtone volume is fine though...

4) Nokia 2600 had this wonderful feature called ’’ screened Numbers ’’ ...By effectively screening a number you can make sure that the sms’es from that number does’nt disturb you...the sms’es wud quitely enter the screened message folder...Did’nt quite work with the calls though...Anyway , here in N6030 , this facility is completly missing...

5) Only one game and that too is boring...What is even more irritating is the screeching sound that comes up everytime you open the game...you just can’t prevent the sound...so if you thought of playing that game in a public place - however boring it might be - make sure you have deaf people around you ;-)

6) There is radio and you can play it in the loudspeaker mode but guess what - you need the headset to do so ( It’s provided free )....so enjoy the music but be prepared to carry that headset with you wherever you go !!

7)The reminder feature is not convenient..in order to view a reminder you need to know the date first !! if you don’t remember the date - which is why you have put the reminder in the first place , isn’t it ? - then you have to look at the bold dates in the monthly calender...very Cumbersome indeed...

Ok, enough of brickbats , now let’s give the devil his due... But as said earlier it’s not detailed...

Pro’s

1) Great display...

2) Sound quality of Radio is very clear....

3) MMS , GPRS , you name it - you have it...

5) Can store lot’s of contacts and sms’es..Sorry , don’t have the exact numbers at present..

5) Can download games , themes etc

VERDICT - Even though I have pointed out lots of con’s ( Anyone at Nokia , listening ??? How abt a gift for me , huh ?? ) , at the price range of 5K , I think it’s not a bad buy...I mean con’s are there but who has’nt..So It’s your decision now...take care

Cheers to Mouthshut and us - the informed Junta !!!!
