Smart Phone

Feels good to return to mouthshut after this long hiatus.

The inspiration to return was not really the Nokia 6030. But I’m glad to be coming back with a good product experience.

The title of my review "Smart Phone" may be not be appropriate in a sense that manufacturers prefer to call some of their high end phones a smart pahone. But to me those are fancy phones with fancy features that we hardly end up using ever.

I decided to downgrade from a Nokia 7710 and that’s what lead me to 6030 and I’m glad.

I was looking for a phone which did NOT have the features that I’d barely used on 7710. Features like a camera, word, excel, power point, anti virus software, touchscreen, games, document manager, picture editor, digital wallet, handwriting recognition, Real Player, Wide Screen, eMail and more...., are features which probably are good to flaunt but seldom used (unless of course one’s a business traveler with no time for a laptop or computer)

On the contrary, features like, a colour screen with decent resolution, phone book with space to hold 200-300 contacts & store multiple telephone numbers email addresses, in-built speaker phone with good voice quality, one touch dial, call register with number and call duration log, messaging capability, calendar to be able to set memo reminders & birthday reminders, dual band compatibility, profiles for quickly changing the alert and display settings of the phone depending on whether one is at work, home or sleeping are more or less the features that are handy. And of course, reasonably decent looks, compact size and good battery back up are features which one always seeks. For the music enthusiasts that most of us are the FM Radio is a must have.

Well, thats exactly what the Nokia 6030 is all about. It would have been a trifle better off with bluetooth than GPRS (one would prefer browsing the net on computer screen than on a 3 square inch mobile screen) and a music player. And in order to be able to accommodate a reasonably good repository of songs, an inbuilt memory space of 512 MB to 1 GB would have been ideal.

These two wishes apart, the Nokia 6030, I believe is the perfect phone with just the right features at the right price.
