Before I penn down this review, let me share my perception about Nokia. Its a good company, mfg very good products however, I find the products over-priced. Also, it has become a common mans brand(EX: Out of 100 people, atleast 75 have Nokia). So I always prefer other brands which give lot more features for ur money. I initally owned samsung phones, X-400, C-230 and C210. And I also own a SE W700i. Many of my friends who are Nokia users tell me its an user -friendly phone which I dont belive in(Not that I dont like Nokia, but "user-friendliness" is subjective according to me).
This is my first Nokia phone. I honesly didnt have an idea what to buy when I went to the store. The owner said its a new model, got nice features. But I didnt bother much as I was bit skeptic about Nokia(with ref to price). Finally I had shortlisted the MotoRazer and SE Z550i. I didnt know from where the thought came, but I asked him to show the N6085. To my surprise it was a flip model.oh .that fella didnt say that first. I have a sense of attraction towards flip models though I dont know why?). It was cute(unlike other Nokias) and strudy. But I was really impressed by the range of features which made me buy this phone ahead of others. It was really surprising to see how much can Nokia offer at that price.
Features:
VGA Camera with Video recorder: Its got a decent VGA camera. Supports max of 640x480 resolution. It also has 4x Zoom. well, u can’t ask for more at that price. Of course though Z550i and Mrazer had 1.3 MP it really wasnt my priority. Moreover both were priced around 8500 compared to 7, 200.( The current price of this phone is 5, 400).
MP3 and Video player: I honestly didnt expect this feature in this phone. I am a music addict and this phone had enough to get my attention. The best thing is it has got a 5 Band EQ with 7 presets and 2 Manual option( My W700i got 5 Band EQ with 4 presets and 1 Manual option!). However it doesn have the playlist option. u have to arrange songs manually each time.its a bit of pain!. It also has a FM player.
Display: It has 2 displays. The front one in the flip is size of 96x68 pixel(1 cm cube). It glows a sexy blue light in the back ground. It shows caller ID, ur music track when playing music, and an Analog clock when in standby. The inner main display is 128x160 pixel. Its got a crystal clear display of 2, 62, 000 colors. But the screen size is bit small. It would have been greatly appreciated had it been bigger.
Technology: I think this is where I got bowled over. For 7000 odd, I get Bluetooth, GPRS, Java, GSM/EDGE with Global roaming, USB 1.1, Push to Talk and Symbian OS. It also has a micro-SD slot for additional memory!I feel this is great.
Design: It’s a neat flip phone. Looks very professional. Its not got smashing design like the Razer; but neverthless looks better than Z550i!. However the back side of the phone looks bland.!It wieghs 85 g. Ok if u are accustomed to Nokia phones. Samsung users may feel the difference.
Speaker: Yes, it has speaker phone too. But the music output from speaker is jus awesome. its really loud. really really loud. It of course cannot match up the the sound quality of W700i!.
Memory: It is here where it is disappointing. Just 5 MB memory. But atleast they ahd brains to include Memory slot. I put in a 512 MB Micr SD and it works fine.
Battery: Its got a decent battery like all Nokias. Its talktime as claimed by Nokia is 5 hrs and stand by time is 240 hrs.
Supported Formats: This phone scores over W700i in this section. real wide array of formats supported!. List goes from MP3, MP4, MPEG4, ACC+, EACC+, 3GPP, 3GPP2 and WMA.
Overall, its a cool phone with very good Value for Money!. This the phone also has the trusted Nokia relability.If u r for good music, latest technoloies, occational photographs, with meduim budget(less than 6K) this the phone for u. I Remember to have seen 3 stores in a row to get this phone for my friend!. Its bit rare to get.
