This baby was my first love as far as mobiles are concerned, and as the saying goes, no one forgets ones first love very soon. I had used this one for over a year, and it had given me only sweet memories.Today you can get this one cheap, for even around Rs.800. Sure, it is not as flashy as the new generation mobiles, but it does pack a decent punch. However, long-time mobile phone users may not find it appealing. If you are new to the field of mobile phones, or are on a lookout for a cheap average phone that gets the work done and dosent show too many complaints, u may go for the 6150.
The 6150 was my first mobile, and it was modern enough back then, that is, in 1999. I used it for over a year when I finally moved on to a Samsung N100. As I said before, it is a little old by modern standards, and does not pack all the fancy features that modern mobiles have. Another thing is that it may no longer be available in the market, and has to be bought second hand. But believe me, if you are buying a mobile for the first time, then it is better to start on a second hand one, because it has more ability to withstand rough and tough use. You can get familiar how mobiles work using this one before buying an expensive model, since this one is very easy to use, and has the basic of all functions. Here are some details about the 6150. (From Experience)
Size and shape: It is not so small, and then again, it is not so big either. Its measures 127 by 47 by 28, (including antenna) and it fits into your pocket. But it is a little bulky, and after using a smaller phone, you wouldnt wank to use a bulkier one. It is gracefully crafted, and it does have sleek and trim lines. It weighs about 140 grams.
Functions and Operation: This is your down-to-earth phone and has all the standard features of common mobile phones. It is very easy to learn to use, and once u have gotten the hang of it, using any other mobile would be a breeze. Of course, it has SMS, Calculator, Alarm clock, Games, 35 integrated ringtones and one slot for downloaded tones, keylock, adjustable profiles, all call management options, etc., in short, all basic features u would expect to be present in a mobile phone. Add to it Infrared connection with other 6100 series phones and wireless printers as such. It also incorporates a phone book with 150 entries. There are also 150 spaces for phone number in most SIM cards, and that makes a phone book with 300 entries. Of course thers also the standard nokia display. Another good thing, it has the on/off switch on the front panel, and not on the top unlike many nokias, where you have to break your fingernails trying to turn it on or off.
Battery and Performance: The battery has good performance, with approximately 2 and a half to three and a half hours talktime and upto 200 hours standby. (The company claims 4 and a half and 290) But you should take care not to drop the phone, and NEVER drop the battery. The best part is yet to come. Performance wise, it is far better than most of the swanky phones available today. The most annoying thing about GSM mobile service is the constant network failure. This can be quite frustrating, but the 6150 has excellent reception, and this is one of its strongest points, since it picks up signals in places where most other phones still go head-over-heels searching for networks. the sound is also quite clear, and there is minimum voice distortion. But this depends on your home network.
Well, that was all about the 6150. The bottom line: If you are new to mobile phones and want to work out on an older, cheaper (and easy to use) phone before investing in a more expensive model, this is the one for you. Also, if you are looking for a cheap, average mobile that gets the work done, then also you can go for the 6150. But u guys who are always on the lookout for the coolest one, this one maynot score many points with you. But then again, it may.
Hope you liked it. Cheers!
