Very nice progression from a 6230i. I have used the 6230 and 6230i for a couple of months. Loved them both very much, but the 6233 is far better in every way. If you have 6230/i, youll absolutely love the new 6233. It does everything nicely, menus are super fast, pic is great, so is the radio & mp3.
Nice Clear display, text is sharp. This is an absolutely beautiful phone, and feels very well built too.The black and silver colours are just great, but I much prefer it in black. Great little gadget.
Ive had this phone for almost 2 months now. Good features - solid build, great resolution screen, expandable microSD memory, mp3 player, good 2MP camera with zoom, clear sound with 3D stereo speakers, 3G features, internet access, GPRS. It has bluetooth and infrared functionality which allows you to connect it to other devices such as your pc to use as a modem or a handsfree set.
Screen
A 320 x 240 QVGA color screen
Camera
Camera is quite great. There is no flash for making pictures in the dark or optical zoom, but still digital zoom up to 8x does the job. The camera features allow you to make your photographs black and white, sepia toned and negative colourings. Pictures are clear and if youre using night mode in low light places the pictures are manageable although flash would have helped.
Video
Having in mind that phone has only 6MB of memory, you would need to buy a bigger memory card if you want to do any filming. I have 1GB microSD and there is no limitations for video whats so ever. Recording is is quite smooth and clear, but I wouldnt move the phone to fast when youre recording.
Memory
For the newest phone it lacks internal memory (Only 6MB internal). Its enough for sms, MMS and all other contacts, just because phone doesnt have allocated space specially for contacts or sms. Thats a good thing, because youll never run out of space from that 6MB. Otherwise if you want to listen for some music, like I do. Best thing to do is to upgrade your standard 64MB card for 1GB or more. Then its plenty of space for all your stuff (music, wallpapers, programs, themes and whatever you want).
S40 Symbian Operating system
This nokia model operates on Symbian series 40 3rd edition system. Which means its more like Windows on your PC. The cool stuff that it can do is the themes and programs. IT can change the look of your phone straight away. The best thing you can download cool themes from internet and dont pay a penny for them. Just make a search in google and definitely youll find loads of them. The phone actually can run some programs as well. I have tried couple of them and they work fine. Ive got word processor, excel and windows IM. Although this operating system is more reliable than new S60, but it still crashes from time to time. Mainly when browsing or listening to music.
Battery life
I use phone a lot, no just for calls, but from music as well. Battery holds 2 days of hard using (I mean few hours of music and up to 2hrs of calls each day). Battery could perform better, but still is good enough. You can always get second battery, but if youre buying it make sure thats the original one (it should have Nokia sticker on it with serial number hidden under black stripe).
Reception
The reception when making phone calls obviously varies from area to area but I have always found it very easy to understand the person on the other side of a phone call. The voices are clear and very lucid.
Pros and cons
I really do apreciate Flight mode in this model. I travel a lot and this mode lets me listen to music on a plane. One thing that bugs me is email. I went through hell to get it up and running. The phone has loads of features and just to set up an email you have to go through like 100 steps of setting it. The best way is to call your network and ask them for settings (ask specifically for email settings). Another thing I really like is the stylish silver or black finish with great and comfortable keypad. I really think PTT (Push To Talk) function is useless, at least here in India, its more like US feature. On the other side I didnt actually look for settings and channel list for it.
Concluding everything its a great phone. I recommend it for everyone, specially if you like listening to the music. There is only few little bad things about this phone and its really nothing major. You can easily get use to it!!!
My Nokia 6233 has been dropped and bashed around on numerous occasions but still works perfectly and looks in good condition so I can personally vouch for it being a strong mobile and of good build quality.
I could point out a few negatives that nokia could look into....
a) The camera button is rather useless. The quick access button is designed at the right edge of the phone. Each time you press it, the phone will run the camera application on the viewing status. The next press of the button will capture a picture. Then the button is of no use, it does not response to further press !!!
b) No shared memory for the contacts and the Text Messeges. ONLY 500 contact then its full !!!.
c) Forget transfering files > 5 mb through bluetooth into phone memory.
d) No WIFI being incoporated into its newest series 40 phone.
Overall Id recommend the product.
