Confused N 6600 or Moto E398??

Here it goes..

My First Love

And there was a time when things started to change..

Every change seemed so positive and so pleasant..

Cut it out!!

I am talking about the time when I purchased a mini

comp..err I mean Nokia 6600.

Yeah, in Nov 2004 I got my darling. I always wished for it and always

dreamt of it..

The Tragedy

Mid Feb 2005

My honeymoon ended with a tragic accident, I lost my love.

My darling 6600 was gone.. washed in the washing machine.. became

non-functional forever..

I was depressed!

The Party Begins

It took some courage, determination and will..

I made my mind to replace it with a new mobile..

It could have been N 6600 again..

Hold On!

Suddenly this beauty (I mean Moto E398) appeared before my eyes.

As I grasped it, I knew this is it!! It felt so smooth and soft..

My jaw dropped when it started playing da Muzik.. OOOhh

Its time to RocK.. to move da booty.. to groove with da beauty.

Oh My Gawd I was in Love again..

In short, I have the first hand experience of using both the phones

during last 3-4 months..

I will list the major advantages of one over the other and hope it

helps you in some way to decide between the two..

To begin with both N6600 and E398 are marvelous pieces of tech in your

hands..

The Looks:

Moto E398 wins hands down.. No doubts about that.

E398 can be both classy as well as flashy.

It has got a lot of oomph!!

The feel:

Silky, Smooth and black, thats E 398 for you.

Sturdy, thick and rugged thats N 6600 for you.

Overall E398 looks more cute and young and has lots of style.

The weight:

E398 feels and is slightly lighter in your hands and your pocket.

The Keypad:

Both have a well structured keypad that is easy to use.

The joystick is 5-way in both, the one in N 6600 is stiffer. After a

while of intense work it will give you a sore thumb. The one in E-398 is

polished with chrome that slips under your thumb sometimes and is less responsive.

The Screen:

Both have a big and bright TFT 64k color screen. No obvious winner in

this department. But my personal opinion is that N6600 wins here

by a minuscule margin.

The Signal Reception:

Both perform admirably good. Reception is crystal clear in both. No

problems at all in making, connecting and receiving calls.

The battery life:

Both the phones do well in this department with N6600 holding an edge

over e398. The battery once charged fully will last approx. 3days for

N6600 and 2 days for moto e398 with optimum usage.Charging e398

also takes a bit longer.

The Ringtones:

Its E398 all the way. Cool loud and funky polyphonics with motomixer

program for budding DJs ;-). Though N6600 does not perform badly, but fades out in comparison.

The Menus and Scrolling:

Basically defines the ease of use.

N6600 wins here.

The menus in E398 can be confusing initially for a Nokiaholic but not a

big problem.

The problem lies in the lag that is there in E398 while working through the menus. N6600 is much faster with apparently no lag.

The Messaging and text input:

N6600 supports T9 that performs reasonably well and has stood the test

of time.

E398 supports a new and innovative style of predictive text input

called iTAP.

iTAP makes things a lot easier and initial impressions suggest that

it will soon replace T9 as a standard. iTAP is also a quick learner,

thereby making the time required to type long messages lesser and

lesser as you use the phone more and more.

The Camera:

No definite winner, and both perform

reasonably well as a vga camera in a phone. Both take pics at max. res.

600x400 (0.3 Mpixels).

E398 supports 4x digital Zoom whereas N6600 has only 2x.

The pics taken by E398 are little bit clearer but have a slight reddish

tinge to them. Pics taken by n6600 look more natural.

E398 also supports a flash, the utility of which is basically

redundant. The flash is better used as a torch in the dark.

Imp: No video recording supported by E398. It can only play downloaded

clips.

Overall N6600 wins in this department, but it can be subjective.

The Music:

Nothing can beat E398 in this department. It is basically a MP3 phone

and the songs just sound great. It has two external speaks that produce

quality surround sound which is in stereo. And when I did put on the

earphones that are provided with the phone I must say I went crazy.

This baby performs on par with any MP3 player!

The sound clarity is just unbelievable for a phone. In one word its

AWESOME!!

Note: No FM radio in both e398 and n6600. With e398 fm headset can be

purchased as an accessory if at all required.

The songs just sound pathetic in N6600. Music lovers stay away from

N6600 or you will regret later. It only supports mono sound output with

unacceptably low clarity.

The winner:E398 definitely!!

The Symbian Advantage:

N6600 supports series 60 symbian operating system. It means you can

download programs to N6600 in sis files to enhance your phone in many

different ways.

All in all if one has a fair bit knowledge of symbian one can never get

bored. It really performs like a mini computer in

your hand.

On the other hand E398 does not support symbian and only supports Java that seriously limits its capabilities as a utility phone. Though the

phone is highly customizable but the lack of symbian takes its toll

here. Seem editing is possible with E398 that can change each and every

bit of the phone to suit your style. Its risky affair though as it can

be regarded as tampering and as a consequence voiding

the warranty. Its fun though.

The Storage:

N6600 is provided with 32MB MMC Card upgradeable to 1GB or more.

E398 is provided with 64MB trans flash card upgradeable to 256MB.

64MB can store around 15 mp3 songs of fine quality.

The connectivity:

N6600 supports Infrared and Bluetooth. No datacable.

E398 supports Bluethooth and Datacable connectivity. No infrared.

I had initial connection problems with N6600 bluetooth but once

it was sorted out it worked very smoothly and predictably.

The were no problems at all in setting up cable connectivity in E398.

Bluetooth in E398 is lot slower than N6600.

I use datacable to transfer the mp3s to E398.The datacable is provided

with the phone when you purchase e398.

The Games:

This aspect evokes little interest in me. But for game freaks N6600

supports both sis and java games that can be downloaded.

E398 supports only java games.

N6600 is a clear winner here with better games available and with a

better frame rate.

So the choice is yours. I have presented all the facts true to my

honest knowledge.
