Applications for SmartPhone

Hello Pals,

I was wondering there is no review on Applications for SmartPhone, which play very important role making phones as a SmartPhone in true sense.. So why not I should initiate this!.

I am using Nokia 6630 since last 7 months, and I am proud owner of it. And I use my phone upto its full extent just because of these applications. So I thought of guiding guys which are still using their advanced cellphones like Nokia 6600/7610/6670/6630/6680/6681/3230 as just an ordinary phone by not knowing the power of Operating System in it. There are thousands of applications available now. Some of them are free and many of them can be bought. I will tell you about only few applications, free and paid (but worth a buy)..

The first and most important thing is installing application to a phone. Surprisingly I found many of people don’t know a bit about it. I guess being a computer user is minimum eligibility for owning such a SmartPhones. Or else you end up using SmartPhones just as an ordinary phone and regret for paying so much for these phones. I will give you small guide for installing applications to a phone. All you need is a computer which has Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) or Windows XP (Service Pack 1)   as an operating system. Now about this, ask a friend who is good at computers. And Bluetooth dongle or Infrared port if you own Nokia 6600 or other phones. Because USB cable is not given with these older phones. You can always buy such a cable from Nokia store. Cable is called Nokia USB DKU-5. Bluetooth dongle is available at computer stores as well as Phone stores. If you have Nokia 6600, you can connect your phone in three way, Infrared, Bluetooth and USB cable. Choice is yours. I recommend bluetooth or USB cable. Get installed your phone, Nokia PC-Suite and connect to your PC. I am not going to explain about this, as It will take complete one review. Now transfer application file which has often .SIS extension (sometimes .JAR) to your phone. Avoid using your inbuilt memory, always use memory card as it has more space. Best and easier way to install application is use Nokia Application Installer which is part of Nokia PC Suite. As soon as you install Nokia PC Suite, application which has .SIS extension becomes executable. Just double click it, it will get transferred to phone automatically as well as Installation on phone will get started. All you need to do is choose YES and selection the location Inbuilt memory OR Memory Card. Now I will start with applications.

Let me start from my favourite application. OggPlay without it I can’t imagine spending a single day of my life. It plays music files (formats like MP3, WAV, and OGG). The best and free MP3 Player available for Symbian Phones now. It has   features, like playing songs in random order (shuffling), sorting by titles, albums, artists, genres, subfolders, files and playlists. It can actually read ID3 tag (ID3 tag is information stored within the MP3 file. Information like Name of Singer, Album, Genre..etc) from each MP3 file and can sort (differentiate) accordingly. You can get this best app from following link https://symbianoggplay.sourceforge.net . Not only that, in Nokia 6600 you can not set MP3 files as ringtone, you need WAV file to do that and WAV file takes lot of space. But using OggPlay you can set OGG files as a ringtone, OGG file format has same quality as MP3 but comparatively low file size than MP3. You can convert WAV/MP3 to OGG by using Ogg Converter which is available for dowload https://ogg-converter.com/

My second most favourite application is Agile Messenger. Ofcourse it is for people who have activated their GPRS services. I can login anywhere, anytime in Yahoo/MSN/ICQ/AOL using this versatile messenger. Not only I can interact with people, but also I can send them live pictures taken with my mobile camera and share my moments with them. What else one could wish for from a SmartPhone!! And it is a free too. Get it from https://agilemobile.com/agile_messenger.html and experience the true mobility.

My third fav. application is Opera browser. I don’t like the browser which comes built-in phone. I prefer Opera, as it is faster. I guess, I don’t need to explain what the browser can do! Bad news is its not free, but can be used as Trial version. Get it from https://opera.com/products/mobile/

Now I will tell about other applications which are not to be used by every person, but only who is interested.

FExplorer is one of best file manager. Using it you can browse files and folders present in your phone. Yes!! your phone has files and folders just like the computer, don’t tell me you din’t knew it!! It has also drives like C, D, E. C is inbuilt memory, D is ROM (Read Only Memory) where all required applications for phone are stored and ofcourse those can not be deleted, edited and E is your memory card. I am not going to tell what are drive contents, you can see yourself. You can download this very handy tool from https://users.skynet.be/domi/fexplorer.htm ..Ofcourse for free. Using FExplorer is no different than using Windows Explorer in computer. You can copy, cut, move files and folders, create new folders, rename them. Also you can browse your mailbox (inbox of messages) using it. This feature is specially useful for copying/moving files which are received via bluetooth (remember, files received via bluetooth gets stored in your inbox folder. So if you receive audio file, you can just play it, can not move it to other location, so that it can be used as a ringtone. Or some files can’t be opened, so there was no way to move them from inbox and use them). Now you can get these files directly from inbox and move them to your desired location. More about its features you can read on website.

EzProtect is Application for Phone Security. Because of it I am no more worried about losing my phone. This application watch SIM card and sends a SMS to your desired number when it founds SIM card has been changed. Didn’t get me? Let me explain, suppose your phone has been stolen or lost. That person (who stole or found your phone) will remove your SIM card for sure and replace it with his SIM   card, in order to use your phone. Now this application comes in picture, it has all the record of your SIM like your SIM number (IMSI number). When it founds new SIM’s IMSI do not match to your SIM’s IMSI, it sends a SMS with the new IMSI number as message to mobile number, you had defined in the settings of that application which could be your friend’s number. So as your friend gets such a sms, obviously he gets the number of that person with IMSI number. Now you can trace the person using his mobile number as well as IMSI number and get your phone back. And I must say this application is worth a buy. Go get it or try it if you’re interested to save your phone https://shop.my- symbian.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp? siteId=695&jid=559856FE94263BF1AAA7F65F91642XXA¤cy=O2&platformId=4&prod uctType=2&catalog=0§ionId=0&productId=168429

I will stop my review her. More about other applications, I will post in my next review, if you find this review useful.

Thanks for having patience while reading my review.
