The best buy among the current models

I had been using the nokia 3310 for almost 2 years and decided to get myself a new colour display phone. The brand choice was obviously Nokia as its the most user friendly phone and anybody who is used to nokia cannot easily change the brand.

I was looking out and I came across the Nokia 6610, the first sight and I fell in love with the phone.

Price: The Nokia 6610 Box pack cost me Rs.15000/- officially.

Box pack Includes: 1 Handset, 1 Lithium Battery, 1 Stereo Handsfree, 1 Software CD & Manual.

Advantages: The Nokia 6610 is the most classic looking phone, the display screen of the phone is much bigger than the 3310 and it fits perfectly in your hand.

It currently available in 3 colours, white, black or grey and if your bored and want to change the look you can change the panel covers with different colours available in the market.(Duplicate Panels Rs.99/-to 150/-, Original Panel Rs.600/-to 700/-)

Keypad is of metal so no worry of numbers or abc getting rubbed of which normally happens with rubber keypads.

Colour display with 4096 colours is quite amazing.

The Four way button is very useful. The menu functions has quite a few good additions. In phone book one can store 3-4 numbers to a single name, email address, postal address.

Messages sent are stored in sent folder(just incase you want to have a record of the sms sent.MMS is great way to message but you need to activate it from your service provider.

Profiles: One can have timed profiles.

Radio is one of the best features of this phone. The stereo output with 2 earphones is excellent. Now no need to carry your radio/walkman around.

Gallery is a folder where u can store images & Ringtones.

Organisor is a great addition too, you can keep reminders, meetings, birthday etc.

Games by default are 2.Bounce & chess. New games can be downloaded via wap or gprs. There are lot of exciting games which you can download, currently I have Prince of persia & MotoGP on my phone.

Polyphonic ringtones are great to hear, the ones originally in the phone are good but more awesome polytones can downloaded (contact me if you need websites providing free polytones, games & wallpapers to be downloaded via GPRS).You can connect to the net via gprs or wap (GPRS is more faster & reliable than Wap.) but you need to get it activated from your service provider for Only Rs.99/-permonth and unlimited access (Orange- Mumbai.) great time pass while travelling.

Battery performance is too good...it actually has seven bars of battery and network.

Voice clarity is also good.

Disadvantages: The first disadvantage of this phone is the memory. The phone runs on shared memory base i.e phonebook, Message Inbox/outbox, organisor, games, images & polytones all share memory. so if one application requires more memory it will acquire it from another application. The total memory on the phone is approx 650-700 kb. Images, games and tones take a lot space so the memory is quite less for a multimedia phone.

Secondly the phone has a software problem. The phone sometimes just gets hung or the wallpaper & tones disappear, you need to reboot the phone or remove the battery and put it back again and restart the phone. Please note that this problem occurs in phones with software version V4.28 or lesser.(Press #0000# to find out your software version and manufacturing date.) so if your planning to buy please check the same and demand for a higher version phone. There is a permanent solution for those who face this problem.... Upgrade software...which can be done at any nokia care centre. It will be done free for in warranty handset and for grey market phones they might charge around 100/- rs.

Thirdly Polytones are good to hear but are not loud enough to hear them in trains or buses, so u need to keep the vibrator on always.

The Display of phone is not very clear in sunlight, its very difficult to read the display in bright sunlight.

People with fat fingers will find it a little difficult to use the keypad.

Overall the phone is still one of the best buys among the current models.

I dont regret even a bit after I bought the phone and would recommend it to all, just check the software version before you buy one.

P.S: dont lose the handsfree cause if you do, then a new one would cost you atleast Rs.1000/-.
