A dual edge is always dangerous....u can surely cut ur enemies but the risk of cutting yourself is always there...
The 6680 is no different.Ill try and list the 2 edges of this phone in a distinct way.
The Good:
1) The Design..its really well designed apart from the old memory card cover bug present in the old models.
2) The OS..The Symbian Series 60 OS8 is really fast and stable and really gives the older nokias a run for their money.
3) The Screen..Bright 264000 colours with great colours but nothing different as compared to the 6630.
4) The Battery..Better then the rest ..lasts 3 days with minimal use and 1-1.5 days of full music listening and watching movies and using the camera.
5) The Camera..The frontal camera is nothing special infact worse then the 6600 vga camera..but the back 1.3 megapixel camera is the best in its class..the flash is powerful and the saturation and brightness is also pretty much upto the mark, the flash is really powerful....it has to be as nokia brands it as an IMAGING phone..even with the existence of better cameras with bigger resolutions like the k750i having a 2megapixel camera and much better picture quality.
6)The Processor..The ARM processor with 220mhz is faster then any of the older fones except the 6630 which shares the same processor as like its costlier sibling.
7)The Music Player..The inclusion of the newer headfone with this fone doesnt make any difference as the older HDS-3 headfone is much better and louder with a distinct base to it as compared to this newer 1.
8)Active standby..This feture is new to the business class fones as it gives an array of 5 shortcuts on the screen excluding the 2 softkeys next to the call and disconnect button.
and many other improvements make this phone APPEAR to be worth buying
Now for the part which can CUT U badly !
1) For starters the OS again.....BAD SOFTWARE SUPPORT..MIND YOU....Most of the softwares out there in the market are incompatible with this fone and can damage your phone and erase the user area if it gets verry messy.
2)The Screen..Yes the screen ..I can find no point in upgrading the screen to 2, 64, 000 Colours even when the 65, 000 coloured screen of the 6630 looks verry verry much at par if not better then it..then theres also the battery leech because of the screen itself even if it has no visual change it keeps on draining the battery more then it had done if the screen was of 65k colours.
3)Bad game compatibility..The screen causes another problem here by giving an extremely bad compatibility rate with most of the games present in the market no doubt that the new and upcoming games would be made compatible to this screen and phone but what about the existing mamoth sized library of java and symbian games present uptill now ?
4)The Camera...Yes I know that I have said that the camera is good and stuff but there is still something that the phone manufacturers have left making us asking and wanting for more...the menu isnt that great and the quality of the image is just distinguished by normal and fine also the whitebalance looks very artificial and that the camera is nothing outstanding other then the flash..also the nightvision has the same laggy screen problems present in the other nokia phones with cameras even with a higher processing power .(Hoping a firmware upgrade could fix it )
5)The Software ..The software provided by nokia agreed is not comprehensive enuff but it is not at all even fit for being used according to me..it is not compatible with bluesoleil bluetooth dongles and billionton dongles but only compatible with the widdcomm bluetooth driver which again has to be paid to be acquired.also the wire isnt as fast as u would have used a card reader to transfer data to and from the fone.
6)The Bluetooth..V2 bluetooth being provided in the phone is not as sweet a candy as one might think because it has the sustained transfer rates faster then v1.2 only when paired with a device running v2 and gives patethic sending rates to older bluetooth versions.
A final round-up
Id say this fone is a good fone provided nokia would have worked on it a little longer and not gone with full blown configurations. The camera could have been given a macro mode and a better array of options.The Flap keeps on scratching the camera chrome reducing its resale value immensly making it scratched and old.the Overy used term SMARTFONE would be inapropriately used here as the softwares which could be used with his fone are more or less incompatible and the screen clouor makes this fone more irritating.....I am now more and more sliding away from the nokia camp being a former nokia fanboy as the newer lineups and the current fones arent making any sense by just putting a worthless inclusion or by blowing the configuration list any higher...Overall is a good fone , BUT with more problems then features which overshadow the good points of the almost perfect fone.
