What I liked:

  1. BUILD QUALITY: Build quality is very good on this device. It gives a very premium feel and it also has a slight heft to it which is appreciable. Full marks to Nokia for such amazing build quality.

  2. SCREEN: It has an IPS grade LCD panel and the screen quality is one of the best in the industry. It’s not good as an AMOLED screen but is the best amongst LCD screens.

  3. CELLULAR CALL QUALITY: Cellular reception and call quality are also very good in this device. Even in areas having low signal reception it was fairly good. Voice calls are also crisp and clear.

  4. BATTERY LIFE: The battery life on this smartphone is also very good. For casual to heavy users it can easily last a typical full working day and more than that. The phone also supports fast charging and a fast charger is also included inside the box.

  5. ANDROID UPDATES: Nokia has promised monthly android security updates for next 3 years and also update for upcoming 2 android versions. And yes, Nokia is keeping its promise. I’m receiving the monthly security updates.

  6. UI: It has pure stock android interface and I have to say, it is nearly as fluid as the Pixel 2 XL in daily usage. Even with extended heavy usage, it does not overheat.

  7. RAM MANAGEMENT: The RAM management has also been done very well. Although it has only 4GB of RAM, I didn’t face any problem while multitasking on this device. The software optimization has been done very well on this device.

  8. GAMING: I did play some casual to heavy games like Modern Combat 5, Asphalt Extreme and Asphalt 8 and it did run all of them fairly well. And also there were not any issues of overheating after extended gaming(but it did become slightly warm at the back).

  9. CAMERA: The rear camera is very good on the Nokia 7+ producing vibrant and crisp photos in natural lighting and also in artificial lighting the rear camera performs fine. It also employs EIS while recording videos. It also has the OZO tech due to which it is able to record audio in 360 degrees while recording videos. The front camera is also very good(after an OTA update) with proper portrait mode.

What I didn’t like:

  1. NOTIFICATIONS: It does not have a physical LED notification light. It also doesn’t have always on display for showing notifications.(The screen lights up and shows notifications.)

  2. SOUND QUALITY: It has single bottom firing speaker and it is adequately loud. But at this price point, Nokia should have gone with dual stereo speakers setup, which is not the case.

  3. DUST & WATER RESISTANCE: It also doesn’t have any sort of dust & water resistance which is kind of annoying for a price of about Rs. 26, 000.

  4. PRICING: The Nokia 7 Plus is priced at 26, 000 INR in India and obviously it is a very premium price point. You are sort of paying an extra 4-5K INR for the Nokia brand.

  5. FACE UNLOCKING: Technically, it has the face unlocking feature but Nokia hasn’t done anything special regarding this. It’s just the normal face unlock that comes with android. So yes, it has face unlocking but it’s not that great.

CONCLUSION: Overall, the Nokia 7 Plus is a very good android smartphone. It has a great build quality, very good cameras, stock android UI and frequent android updates but there also some cons. Also, you have to pay sort of premium for the Nokia brand. At the end of the day, if I were a normal consumer having a budget of around 25K INR, I would definitely have a look on this device. So, I would recommend that if you are having a budget of that amount then go for the Nokia 7 Plus period.
