I won this phone on a website for referring a friend. I got it this morning and have to say that I’m very impressed with it. Having used a Nokia 402 for a couple of years, I found the Nokia 7110e very easy to pick up, but even if your a new user of the nokia phones, you will still be able to pick it up pretty quickly.
The phone comes with a whole host of features including Wap facilities, 4 games, and a brilliant calendar/diary function.
Ive never used WAP before, so I was pretty anxious to have a go, so I connected and got pretty bored pretty quickly! The phone makes it simple to use with its unique navi ball function which you can roll down to highlight items, and then press it to select them. Having never used WAP before I did find it very easy to use, by clicking on categories, then sub categories till I got where I wanted to be. I must say, I dont think I would use the WAP feature very much, but when travelling on trains etc it could be extremely useful.
I then looked at the calendar function which I thought was excellent. You can select any day in the year or years ahead and make a note on that day. You can then set up the phone to remind you about that date or appointment at either the time of the appointment, the day or even a few days before so you can prepare. Excellent for birthdays that you dont want to forget. You can just get the phone to give you a reminder 3 days before the birthday and then your not stuck for buying a card and present on time. You can make several notes on any day. The phone will then either give you a silent reminder (text on the screen) or it will beep at you when you have asked it to remind you of the occasion in question.
I then played a few games, which I was very impressed with. Having snake 1 on my old phone I found snake II to be much more interesting. The tennis game could be good when your bored, but I haven’t got round to playing them yet as they look a bit too complicated for my little mind!
Then, I had the mammoth task of putting all my old phone numbers on to the new phone! Adding a phone number is simple, as is finding a phone number in your phone book. I found that typing in letters on the phone was a lot quicker than the nokia 402, you dont have to wait as long if you want a letter that is on the same number key and it changes the format (upper case and lower case) automatically for you. You can set the navi roller up so that when you roll it on the normal orange screen, you will be presented with all the names in your phone book for easy selection. You are able to store up to 1000 numbers (wow!!!) on the phone, but I doubt many people actually have that many people they want to call, but extremely useful if you are a business man with plenty of contacts.
Apart from that, the phone has the normal features that you will find on many Nokia phones. The 7110e weighs a mere 141g, has a built in 14.4kps modem and an infrared port which comes in useful if you have an IR printer and you need to print out your phone numbers etc.
The screen is large which makes it easier to use when using WAP services and generating and receiving text messages. The phone also looks very nice and is quite small considering what its got in it! The mouthpiece flips down in matrix style by pushing a button on the back of the phone which wont get accidentally pressed. The backlights are of good clear quality as are the lights on the keypad which makes it a lot easier to use in the dark.
This is a very good phone in my opinion and I would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a phone to access WAP facilities.
Thankyou dooyoo for this nice little prize :o)
UPDATE:
I have recently heard of people having problems with the phone crashing when using WAP services and have to say that I have not come across this problem at all when using WAP services. They say that the only way to get your phone to work again is to take the battery off then turn the phone back on again.
Another problem that I have heard of was the sliding mouthpiece connectors becoming worn and not answering and ending calls when opening and closing it.
A few pointers to be wary of, and if I get any problems arising, ill let you know :o)
Problem 1 - 02/04/01
The only problem I have had so far is the phone sometimes crashes on me and if I drop it, sometimes it tells you to put the sim card in (and I dont mean a big drop!!).
