I recently changed my Philips handset to a Nokia 8210. After 2 months of usage, I am frankly disappointed.
First the pros. The phone is small, the menu is intuitive, the changable covers are cool, the absence of an antenna which juts out is great, the Navikey feature is quite good.
BUT ........
Perhaps I got a phone from a bad lot -- but my display started to flicker on me within 1 month. When I called the local Nokia dealer, they asked me to get the phone over and vaguely mentioned a 2-3 week wait as this is a common problem. The local dealer flatly refused to honour the international warranty. Anyway, I went to a local repair shop and got the display changed at a stiff cost.
The battery life is pathetic ! I have fairly medium-to-heavy usage and talk-time is very important. The 8210 is very bad with battery life. My previous phone gave me much better battery life.
Voice quality too is very inferior. Talking on the phone from outside -- say while standing at a busy intersection -- reduces the conversation to pure garbled noise.
I would also like to crib a bit about the menus. Maybe its just a matter of getting used to, but I found setting up voice mail and SMS mailboxes far easier on my Philips handset. I have also experimented with a relatives Motorola handset, and it was easy there too.
Overall, a phone which is reasonably good, but still needs work -- especially to live up to Nokias hype.
