I bought the Nokia 8210 in Australia about a year ago. I don’t see this model much in India though! The first comment or rather warning that I received from my friend was that 8210 was notorious for screen problems and alas the screen doomed out soon afterwards when I reached India. And I never knew till then that the so-called ‘Nokia International Warranty’ is not valid in India and I have to spend from my pocket (about Rs.3000) to get this corrected. If any of you have used this warranty in India please let me know.
Otherwise the shape and the size and the weight are still very impressive to me. This is the first phone that has stayed with me for more than a year now for these features. The calendar feature is very useful to make reminders etc., It doesn’t have a WAP. But how many of us use this feature? There are a lot of other excellent features on this phone that are discussed a lot and I don’t want to repeat them here.
I want to mention a couple of drawbacks this phone has -
It has an IR transfer feature that lets you transfer data wireless between compatible phones and devices. I tried one such transfer with my Casio pocket viewer PV-750 (that has a similar feature) and it didn’t work. Both of them are not compatible. I have never been able to use this feature later on. And I believe you are paying a lot of money for this feature. So if you are not using this feature, I suggest not going for this model or the 8250 OR please check if it is really compatible with the device you are planing to use this with.
The next major drawback in this model is, it does not support a ‘Compose (ringtone)’ feature. If you need a ringtone on your phone, you need to compose on a different phone and send it to yours. And the problem does not end here, you cannot send ringtones to another phone too.
I would still recommend this phone and would give 4 stars to this phone mainly for its sexy looks and performance!
