This communicator (Nokia 9500) has come a long long way since the early days of Nokia 9000 series.
Let me begin staright away...
Phones Advantages :--
Has an excellant inner & outer colour screen.
Runs on Symbian OS, this is much more stable than Windows Operating System.
Its has WiFi - This is a huge plus point & gives the 9500 an edge over many other phones in the same catogory
Has a full Keyboard - This is the best thing in my opinion about the communicator. The keys are excellant & have a very nice tactile feel to it also. typing large emails etc are a breeze. Compared to this, other phones have T9 or handwriting recognition, but in my opinion this is much faster then any other form.
Its fully loaded for connection - Its got Bluetooth, Infrared, GPRS, EDGE(for much faster downloads & surfin.Orange in Mumbai provides EDGE)
Its sync for email/calender & contacts with Microsoft XP running SP2 is & Office 2003 is also supported. It comes with a docking cradel & all u need to do is dock it in & press a button & the sunc startes. Its fast & easy as 123.
Its got tons third party software available for it. You can visit https://allaboutsymbian.com or https://my-symbian.com for software upfdates.
It comes with 80 MB memory built-in & also comes with a 128MB Memory Card. The phone supports upto 1GB Memory Cards. A 1GB Memory Card is availabe for Rs.5000 or so , so I would say its not that unaffordable.
It plays MP3 Ringtones, comes with Real Player, Voice Recorder, Adobe Acrobat & E-Book Reader. With Extrs software you can even see AVI video files.
It has a good camera with 2X Digital Zoom. It can capture Still Photos as well as 1 Hour Videos.
11.Its comes with a Word Editor, Excell & power point presentation editor & creator. You can transfer work/excell/PPT files from you computer directly to your phones memory. It even reads documenst etc made in office 2003.
It comes with Winzip, converotr, calculator & a File Manger.
Its got 4 Themes, but its not possible to add ur own themes as yet. Maybe in the next Firmware upgrade.
You can transfer your 9210 data directly by connecting the 2 phones via IR.
It has good battery life - atleast 2days with good usage.
Phones Disadvantages:-
A Bit Bulky to carry. But then again the new Nokia 9300 totally solves this problem.
No Vibrator
No T9 text input for the front side.
All in all this is a phones thats a class apart. Worth buying it for sure. Its now available for approx Rs. 37000 with Nokia Warranty. In my opinion its a better buy than the O2 XDA II or the O2 PDA2k.
A close competitor is the SonyEricsson P910i.
