My uncle got this phone as a lucky draw winning for his purchase of Diwali crackers. It is listed on e-commerce sites for Rs. 3999. The Nokia Asha 501 came in a bright blue little box. It has minimal stuff in it such as the canary yellow colored phone(with screen guard applied), replaceable battery(BL-4U 1200mAh), matching colored earphones and some user manuals.
The phone is very basic with a 3-inch touch screen(320 x 240 resolution), 3.2 Mpx rear camera, dual-SIM(2G) functionality. It uses micro-SIMs. It comes with FM radio functionality and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity. The phone has only 64MB internal storage but comes with a 4GB microSD card out of the box.
It runs on Nokias proprietary software, Asha version 1.4. The UI though simple and easy to use lacks functionality like Java or Nokia apps support.
Major Cons -
No integrated search options in contacts.
No copy or paste functionality
Multiple files cannot be shared at once via bluetooth. Each file must be shared separately.
Whatsapp is very basic and misses on several features.
Default alarm tune and volume are fixed and cannot be changed.
Proximity sensor has a mind of its own.
The SIMs are dual standby and not dual active.
Besides this, the phone does what its meant to do, i.e. make and receive calls brilliantly. The network reception is also strong compared to higher priced and more feature rich phones. It is very compact and highly durable(I have dropped in on more than one occasion). You must get this as your second phone. Kindly rate my review and let me know what you think. Cheers!
